Eventing Who wants to see a video of Karen O'Connor and the super pony Teddy?

Definitely a case of size doesn't matter. Also, is it normal for state side to have the markers in the arena or was that a specific thing? They would be mega useful to me!

But is she too big for her pony?;)
I have been saying for years that Mark Todd is too big for every 'pony' he rides, but people insist on buying larger horses, as if bigger means better, when for most teenagers they would be better staying on a smaller mount.

yes i always thought mark looked tall on his horses, i think dark angel was not large, and i hope you are right because i have a cracking pony 14,3 hh 5 years, and i am 5`. 6 in and concerned about height weight etc, but i would love to bring him out eventually as a dressage pony, not sure about the height age limits though, if they exist for adults on ponies in dressage

No an adult can ride a pony, but they can't do the FEI pony classes :).

Once the fences get big you need to be a very balanced rider, not all teenagers/adults are and will be better on a bigger horse with more neck in front of them. My daughter did FEI ponies and if I am honest she was too heavy for him the last year they were together but it's very hard to give up the ride on a talented pony. She moved onto a 16.1 eventer and certainly didn't look small.

I think she asked for dressage ponies, which is how I answered it. I'm not as up on eventing ponies ?

What a star. He definitely looks like a small horse not a pony.
What a shame about his freak accident

Just seen this, one of my all time fav. eventers :)

So sad what happened to him, apparently he was naughty and sharp in general and had dumped his jockey that day, tragic.

Wow! and to think I worry about my 14hher getting over 90cm jumps :D

Yeah i’m the same with my 15hh ?Although Teddy as I said looked (and presumably moved) like a much bigger horse - (didn’t he have a really big stride for his size? )

Not to be depressing but it was mentioned here (I'm in the USA not far from VA) that they'd been out riding and he got spooked by a bear, and got loose. Which is unusual but not completely unlikely in the area where the O'Connor's base is.

The details of his injuries are here:

Word on the street was that he fell and slid into the corner of the barn and that did the damage. (Metal barn edge)

He was a hell of a pony, the only thing I didn't agree with was that Janie Atkinson (Former Rolex organizer) admitted that she always made him #1 in the order so that he'd be ensured of having the best footing. That to me is not in keeping with the random draw order under which eventing is supposed to run. He was a good enough animal to have got the job done first or last or anywhere in between and giving him preferential treatment seems just not right.
