I'm looking to get Monty Knobberts a new bridle, and I've decided that it may be time to introduce him to the idea of looking nice. Am hoping that the introduce of some vanity will bring out the dressage-diva in him... am fairly sure that, ironically, the attempt will be in vain, but worth a try :D

Am ebaying myself to death atm - absolute max budget of €100 but really would like to stay below €70. Cheaper the better as long as quality is good ;)

Must be black, comfort bridle (padded headpiece absolute must) with flash. X-full in normal sizes but if any make is generous could get away with a full.

Stuck between plain noseband/bling browband ; white-lined noseband/plain browband ; white-lined noseband & browband ; white-lined noseband/crystal browband ; or full on white-lined noseband & browband & crystals! (Last option may cause knobber-shaped blur on approach and weeks of sulking ;))

He's over 17hh and is a big chunky lad so I think he can pull off the wide-noseband look, which I like. What do you think, please and thank you?!

(Bakewell tart for all help!)

In his current cheapo bridle (am ashamed to say how cheap it was :D)

Firstly, thank you very much for the bakewell tart!! :D

But I have to say, you traitor! Monty is a proclaimed mud hippo, how could you expect him to ponce around with BLING!? ;) :p :p

Please send him to me, I will provide mud puddles galore and he will live knowing the impending threat of posh bridles and CRYSTALS have ceased....

ps. Ronnie's bridle cost me £21.00 from Robinsons and I got his bit secondhand on eBay... go on, hang me now :p :)

Amaranta - oooh, nice! I like the browband.

I think I'm leaning towards the white-lined look, at least for the noseband. Would it suit him?

He's got such tiny markings I think a bit more white might be nice (to detract from his scruffiness :D)

I like this (stylewise - headpiece isn't padded so not for me) - but not sure if white lining and crystals is too much given that he also has white snip? Also think white lining AND crystals may be too much for the YO who has already threatened to ban me for having matching brushing boots/saddle cloth :D

Ashleigh - I know, it's awful what I do to him! His current bridle beats £21.00 by some distance :D And his mud-hippo-ness is getting so unbelievably bad (he went from so sparkly after his bath that I could call him a disco ball, to swamp-horse in 10 minutes flat IN HIS STABLE the other day ) that something must be done. It must!

I'd go for a plain flat leather noseband and a fancy browband. IMO the white padding looks lovely at first but tends to go a bit grubby after a while. Not so bad if you save them for smart though...(these are only the ones from a few horses I ride, so I don't know if they just aren't cleaned properly ;))
Or if you wanted something more traditional, our big ginger irish one had a brass clencher browband which looked very smart when all polished up to compete :) although of course, some crystals are always nice! haha

Thanks all!

Good to know about the sizing on those stowe bridles - if I do go for one I may have to step him up to XXF

Hmmm, maybe white isn't such a good idea for his grubbiness... but I really like the look! Although in fairness he does do a great job of keeping his face clean (all the effort goes into the rest of him) - his current bridle never really gets too dirty, even though I don't clean it as often as I should, oops!

I'm liking the idea of the thick noseband/thin browband combo :)
