As missy has a nose for trouble thinking about putting it to good use.
She can find daddy (using her nose) over about half a mile its our game! She tracks his exact route.
So how did you go about it is there a book I can read about it and did you find a professional class or just go it alone?
Seems to use up more enegy than bimbiling along! :D

PS Pip appears to have survived unpopped corn, pick a mix and strawberry milkshake (we didn't find the chewed up maccy D cup till yesterday!) :D

I'm going for TD1 but it is an obedience exercise as much as a 'search' one, it's very specific, finding certain articles on a pre-laid tracks, lying down when he finds them, not allowed to nose or touch them, not allowed to air-scent.

With me I belong to a Schutzhund club and it is one of the three phases of the sport so we have trainers for it.

If you want something more 'useful' :p then I would seek out a working trials club or search and rescue group in your area, the KC website should have a list of the former for the regions.

Obedience tracking and air-scenting (more useful for search and rescue for example) are not mutually exclusive, many dogs in our breed are Sch trained first before they go on to search and rescue training) but they should be trained seperately with different commands, rewards, stimuli.

My fella has a phenomenal nose and once I put some titles on him (or if he fails miserably) we will probably go on to to do SAR as he is brilliant at finding people as well as small bits of sterile carpet, wood or leather :p

PS it is very important to find a trainer who suits your dogs, there are people at my club who do not work well for me and my dog, others who do.
