Who would like a Conformation Critique forum on here?

Post in suggestions and feedback and just ask admin.

You could link to this thread to show that it has support.

Personally I think a Critque my...... board would be good with a subsection for conformation and another for riding and maybe a turnout one too.

Thanks Katt!

I have gone ahead and PM'd Admin with a request for this sub-forum, along with a link to this thread so they can see everyone's views and opinions on the subject.

I made it clear that although I seem to be the sort of self-appointed 'spokesperson' for this request, it does have the support of many other HHO members - and that most of us feel that any potential problems could be prevented by having a 'Guidelines' sticky at the top of the forum, giving some basic sensible advice for both those posting horses for critique and those offering critiques of others' horses.

The gist of the advice could perhaps be something along the lines of:

"This is a CRITIQUE forum, and there is no such thing as a perfect horse. If your feelings may be hurt by honest criticism of your horse's conformation, do NOT post on this forum!

Only post your own horses for critique, or horses for whom you have the owner's explicit, written permission to post.

Also remember that while some of those critiquing your horse may be experts, others are not. It is never wise to base any important decisions solely on the opinions of strangers on an Internet forum! If in any doubt, consult a reputable, qualified judge, instructor or vet.

A conformation critique is impossible without decent 'conformation' photos. At least one direct side-on photo of the horse, taken from about elbow-height, with the horse standing up properly (not grazing!), and all four legs visible, is ESSENTIAL for a critique. Ideally, photos taken from directly in front of and behind the horse should also be included.

Those offering critiques MUST be polite and courteous at all times. There is no 'perfect' horse, but some may come close, and every horse also has some good qualities. A critique should include mention of these good qualities, as well as any faults."

This is just off the top of my head and in a rush - I'm sure it could be much improved and would welcome any suggestions. Obviously the Guidelines should be kept as brief as possible and not be tooooo demanding - not everyone has perfect front and back photos of their horse, for example, so I think a decent side-on confo shot as a minimum requirement is enough.

Any thoughts? I'm sure Admin could do a much better job of formulating the Guidelines, but perhaps we can save them some time and trouble by providing a suggested version?

Thanks Katt!

I'll post on here as soon as I hear back from Admin - let's hope this new sub-forum will be possible!

Meanwhile - any further suggestions on the wording of the Guidelines would be welcome.

HURRAH! Good news!

I received a response almost immediately from Admin! They say that they like the idea in principle and are considering the best way to introduce it!

This may take a bit of time, of course, but I'm sure we're all happy to be patient.

Thank you very much everyone for your support!

Any more thoughts/suggestions on the 'Guidelines'?
