It dawned on me yesterday after reading another thread on here that there may be something very simple i am missing that would make life simpler, keep my horses looking better & less complicatedly fed, oh and most importantly..make my pockets stay fuller longer :D

I have four, and while my old much loved tried & tested foolproof diet was brilliant, this year it seems to be falling apart at the seams. This is after 8 - 10 years of simplicity. One has now developed an allergy to the key base ingredient & i seem to be piling more & more into them& having countless sacks crammed into the same small feed chest..so yesterday seeing horses on here being fed a base of adlib haylage & fast fibre for light work, I thought how I missed the simplistic days of simply adjusting the quantities per horse...currently Its getting ridiculous, so am open to suggestions.

Happy to divulge more if anyone interested..by pm or on here.

I've got to buy more feed tomorrow, as will run out on sat/mon so this would be an ideal time to start adjusting any new things in/out....

Ad lib haylage and Fast Fibre works for mine, one in harder work gets Calm and Condition as he will not eat enough ff, I have used it now for about 3 years and they all seem happy on it. I soak a big bucket full and scoop it out as required, I find this way I can make it less sloppy and the horse prefer it this way.

Mine get either hiFi original and or AlfaA depending on the amount of work they do, with speedibeet in the summer, and all year for the really good doers, and sugar beet cubes in the winter. Only the brood mare and foal, and one bad doer in medium work get anything else. Hay for most, some haylage for those in work, and brood mare, adlib barley straw for good doers

Ad lib hay and fast fibre is fine for all mine...from the 23year old who hacks a few times a week to the big 17.2 advanced Dr horse.
The ones needing more condition get oil and extra linseed meal....

Mine get FF, micronised linseed, brewers yeast and equibites as a base, the new lad also gets Dengie healthy tummy and ulcer calm too for his gippy Tum. This covers my retired cobx mare, my friends ID and the new boy (who gets the 'extras' is a TB, all live out 24/7 with hay or haylage out out twice a day.

ha..if only it was that simple!all ad lib hay/haylage depending on what is being peevish& thinking it will have a melt down(scour)on whatever I'm giving it so ..fields now flooding so will all prob just be turned out all day in school:( basically all tbs, (one is 17/18's or something silly so we'll say tb!)

I have one(26yr old ) on copra, micronised linseed, soaked sugar beet & grassnuts(added grass nuts when couldn't get mollassed linseed as she started to drop off) calm & condition, alpha a and thinking I need to get her back on Omega Rice (rice bran) asap.benevit advanced & salt apple cider vinegar

one youngster on sb & grass nuts with a feed ball with his molichaff original & nuts.benevit advanced & salt

one on sb grass nuts benevit advanced & salt (chaff seems to make him choke-this is the peevish one)rosehips used to have alpha a & sb fine, but trailling him off them atm & increasing haylage tho he swallows it whole(teeth done & fine he's just a twonk)

one on sb,grass nuts calm & condition mollie chaff benevit advanced salt & apple cider vinegar.

Basically cannot please anything at the mo and its really quite soul destroying as they all used to do brilliantly on this-previously just alpha, sb & vits. the youngster looks fine, the older grumpy sod is fine but would drop at a moments notice..he is a miserable ar*e to his neighbour tho so likely this is his issue! The 26yr old was fine, she's a consistantly poor doer since had her aged 7,looked brilliant till nov and her coat is gleaming in places tho has gone hard & starey along her back..bushier but not gleaming like rest of her.just can't get the weight on her tho she's happy & full of life(2yr old brain canters while shes grazing because its fun!)the other is borderline fine but not quite as well as usual. all are wormed & teeth done..trying to keep off grains & mixes. 26yr old colic prone history since youngster in racing tho touch wood seems to get on with this diet. I'm pulling my hair out literally as I don't feel happy cramming more feed into them(little & often principle) all feeds are split 2 a day except 26yr old who has three. I am rich in empty sacks & frankly fed up! I know its the weather not helping but just don't think ff alone will be enough. *stomps off muttering had enough bloody horses!*

oh and one has had a weird virus but ok now after antib's, one had awfully stinky wee after abcess..oh and don't mention those or I'll start crying...all appart from the miserable ass are happy enough & calm, but bare in mind this feed plan is for ZERO work as they & self have been roughed off due to various rubbish things(mainly my creaks) none are clipped, all rugged & in at night. I physically don't think I can put any more in them without risking feeding 'large & often' nets are all haylage nets & slowing contraptions and all have spare in morning/field too. see what I mean? God forbid i want to start riding any, I'll have to do 9 feeds an hour:D:D:D goldfish would have been easier! never doubted myself ever but really getting fed up

yes all fine in that respect - wormcount done, then tapeworm done in autumn,re count after also had everything double checked bloods wise too when little one had virus.. ..vet told me getting heavies or natives would resolve it! as above, one had bug, one getting over abcess, one stressy since his 2friends died and one always been prone to it..had her 18 years
