Who would you NOT sell to?

After seeing the thread 'should I seek legal advice after horse purchase' probably no one... We live in a culture of suing for the slightest thing. If the horse passes a 5 stage vetting how can someone think it is reasonable to sue 6 months later? Crazy!

And then there's the people who vastly overestimate their own ability and over horse themselves and blame the resulting ridden issues on the previous owner withholding things.

No wonder the bottom has fallen out of the horse market

Or blame it on 'people doing things to my horse' when it's totally obvious it's their handling thats causing the problem

It's actually the reason why I sent mine to be sold at livery. The lady who I sent to was very experienced and an excellent rider and took the stress out of it for me. I only had one person view 'from home' - never again! I didn't like so much and was relieved when she turned into a time waster (asking if I would keep her for another few months whilst she saved up!) and I could send her to a professional to sell.

I kept in regular contact and even went to watch her out competing. We had a couple of quite funny telephone chats about people who had been to try her, including one man she had told to get off immediately! lol

She sold to a lovely home, who I had 100% confidence in, because the sales livery had said were perfect (wink wink if you are watching :) )

I would definitely consider sales livery if you are likely to get worried or judgmental watching other people ride your horse!

Well I was going to put things like people I had a bad feeling about, were going to keep the horse on it's own etc... but I'm another one (See Fides post above) who's now hoping that I never have to sell.

Well I feel very fortunate that people have sold horses and ponies to me!

My children are pony clubbers and are not great riders, but they are keen to learn. They also like to compete. I have been riding since I was 5, but class myself as a novice and I'm a Nervous Nelly exercising my son's spooky 17.1hh during the winter in an attempt to keep him fit. Sometimes our horses have to stay on their own and they do a lot less hacking than I used to due to increased traffic.

I have been able to keep in touch with past owners of the last 3 horses I have bought and I hope their old owners enjoy seeing how we are getting on. They certainly write nice comments on facebook.

Being on their own while one goes off for a hack, or to a show is not the same as a horse kept for several years without equine company. The latter I would not sell to.

If it's something we just want gone- anyone, usually a dealer!
If it's a horse I'm sad to see go I'm very picky that they'll be well suited and able to feed them.
Most of ours go to people we know either LWVTB, sold or normal loaned so that gives us full choice and a good insight as to how they will be looked after, as well as still seeing them out on the circuit :)
