I have 3 lovely mares, and wondering who you would use on them.
My plans for the year are not yet set, and a lot of things are up in the air....breed one, breed 3, produce one if I can get the right rider, sell etc

First up Is my established broodmare. She consistently produces quality, and of the 4 I have had from her I have had a high first and elite in the futurity, and third sold as stallion potential. Fourth for run went to a dressage stallion, and got second highest colt in UKWPN gradings accross country for dressage.

She is //http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10565346

The second mare is her daughter. http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?d=destination+Zion&x=20&y=15
She really needs to proove herself, but if the right person is not there, and i dont want to sell her, breeding is an option. BUT I also dont want to end with too many horses!!! I am almost there as it is!
video of her loose jumping when she was being backed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuYtJmaRKJ4

third mare is a 3yo, who is very well matured, but not really to height :(
her lines are http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?d=findon+faith&x=19&y=13
She is out and out jump bred, just SMALL!!

I dont have a huge budget, so just wondering what people think would be ideal crosses!

Too many horses already good ones being shot, dumped and remain unsold-stop breeding for profit its not ethical in the current climate

You assume its for profit, not for the dream. One of my greatest pleasures (and heartbreaks) is following the youngsters that I bred in their new home, the joy, heartaches, and sucesses with their new owners. I would rather reduce the price and get them into the right home.
the first two have fabulous confirmation, super temprements, the first is a prooven broodmare of QUALITY. She is full sister to a graded stallion, and was a prooven performer.
Her daughter I kept because I love her. She has had a 5figure valuation. I want her to gp and proove herself, although in every sense I would be much better off if I sold her.
The third has amazing bloodlines, but is the least likely that I would breed from, her confirmation is great, her movement great, she would be an ideal young riders horse. BUT there is something that I question about her suitablilty
Yes there are too many being produced, but the biggest question of that is too many that are rubbish being produced. Too many out of lame horses (none of mine are) with hereditory problems. Too many old horses kept alive far beyond their times by the charities, because of the PR side of things.
SO
back to the theoretical question
If you were to breed from them, to make the most of their bloodlines, who would you choose

I would use Carousel on the Carnaval Drum mare, I believe this is quite a nice cross.
For her daughter I'd be interested in using Odermus R as this creates Ramiro on both sides and Abgar too, the foal would be a nice blood type I would think. Or possibly Kannan, he certainly produces the goods so on an 'unknown' mare it would be a good option commercially.

For the young filly I think Silvio I as he is in the UK and it seems a nice opportunity to use him, again like Kannan he is proven to produce...

The which stallion on which mare is almost interchangeable but I think these 4 stallions are my favourite options at the moment. The opportunity to use stallions like Odermus and Silvio with fresh semen in the UK is fantastic.

If you're wanting a profit and a higher chance of selling then I'd splash out on the proven mare and get the best stallion you can for her - people will be far more likely to buy if previous offspring have done really well. The other 2 I wouldn't bother, especially if you're stuck for space and if you're stuck with 3 extra foals to sell which then don't you could be stuck with them till they are old enough to back at 4 or older if the market remains as it is! Also if the 3yr old is small and as she is still a baby, regardless of how mature she looks on the outside she's still growing, she shouldn't even be considered for breeding for another year anyway, maybe fork out and get her backed next year and sell on as a smaller jumping prospect as you'd get more money that way than from a foal from her.

SJ-
Arko
Lord Luis
Billy Dinero depending in budget

Outside of pure SJ can't go wrong with Treliver Decanter! :)

too many are being produced both good and bad.

last yr i witnessed many many good, well bred fit and healthy 2 and 3 yr olds arriving to be shot and i mean lorry after lorry.

untill everyone stops breeding what we already have is worthless

Really? where was this? sounds awful

However Jools it does not change the post, who would you use? It is an investigation into bloodlines, what people conside great crosses.
ANd 2-3yos, would usually be in the TB industry.
Sadly
so please you have made your point, now leave this thread alone to the question that was asked

I quite like an irish/ french cross. Could work particuarly well here, ramiro is known to cross very well with alme.
Take your pick from any of the Baloubet, Quick Star (Big Star!!), Nabab De Reve, Quidam De Revel stallions!!!

Chaman is quite a nice, although unproven possibility

And many are being sold and going on to good competition homes.

OP I love your Destination Zion mare. If she were over here and she were mine I'd consider breeding her to Balou du Rouet.

Sorry was looking at wrong pedigree!!!! Thought she was irish!

I don't know why with every single post regarding stallion choice people have to comment that 'there are far too many good horses out there.' Sorry but no there is not... I couldn't find a decent 3yo for love nor money. Yes there are too many cob/ cross types ( or mistakes/ BOGOF) out there but quality sport horses no there is not.

What about Arko. I am considering him this year but £2000 is quite steep considering its not NFFR.

I am also considering Peppermill and Lord Luis.

@spring feather, thank you, I am rather partial to her myself!!!
Her full brother has been sold back to the stud as a potential replacement for her sire, so in the next two years hopefully he will be graded, they usually go AES route.
He will be there under Findon Zencario!!

That doesn't surprise me if he's as nice quality as her. Well done; it sounds like you have a very good breeding programme :)

@springfeather, been blessed, and TBH my girl was such a nice foal, had to redo that cross!!!
So been looking, and so far, not hugely far and wide yet.
The stallion company is out, I dont want to deal with that man.
Brendon stud have two cracking young ones, Warriors Glory (warrior/carantino glory) and Cambrio Van overis (Clintissimo z/coriano z)
then a few nice boys at Zangersheide. Then there is a grade a full brother to matterhorn (Ahorn/ramiro), jumping grade a, and last year first year public stud.

What does anyone think about these on paper as a cross? warriors glory I do not think would be idel for the 3yo, as both are 16hh ish mature. but she is a little powerhouse!!

Warrior's Glory is a cracker - I have seen him since he was a foal and he is going to be pretty special. Have a look on Brendon's You Tube page as I remember there was a loose jump video of him (Gorilla) from about a year ago and he was WOW! I imagine he will end up a good 16.2 as is only a baby still. Cambrio is also fabulous and his jump is soo much like his sire. Love him.

There is also El Thuder - seriously jumps and passing it on in spades. My guys by him all certainly jump! He is 16.2 I think.

I'm a big fan of Royaldik - grandson of Rubinstein with Inschallah AA on the sire side, out of a full-sister to the fabulous Heraldik XX. He's very correct, with great hind leg action and wonderful presence. He has been used on both Headley Britannia and King's Temptress so your mare would be in good company!

But is owned by The Stallion Company, OP won't use that company.
