The day before yesterday I filled in someone's college survey about how often you fall off...and I figured out it had been about 8 years (quite good I thought). I didn't ride at all yesterday (long work hours) and

TODAY I MADE AN UNSCHEDULED DISMOUNT!

who ever said that traditional cobs were plods hasn't met my fella!!

So I was riding in the menage and was too lazy to take the jumps down (2 tiny cross poles)that the livery had left up. WHen I bought my fella the seller told me that he hated jumping so I didn't worry too much and thought I'd work round them.

Well at the top of the school whilst I was still fiddling with my stirrups (reins held on the buckle kinda thing) He ran sideways away from the track and made a bee line for the cross pole, jumping it (Cat leap) with me losing both my stirrups (and balance) in the process, he then made the tightest turn back towards the other jump and jumped that with style (With me trying to regain my pedals and balance but failing dismally (Sp?) ) He thru in a happy buck -- and I made my exit! He then continued round the jumps again without me on board (and if I wasn't quite so pee'd off I could have enjoyed the smile on his face!)

Next time I take him near jumps I think I'll put a GP saddle on (not the flat as a pancake showing saddle I had on him) and add a martingale for some breaks!!

SO much for not liking jumping!!

PS as you get older falling off really does hurt more (I advise avoiding it if you can!)

I can sympathise as I fell off yesterday - first time in over 10 years!!! My youngster got her knickers in a twist attempting to canter on a circle and frightened herself, the result being she ended up dumping me! Today I'm hobbling round like an old woman - I didn't think it was possible to ache so much!!!

Hope your not badly bruised. Coblets are crafty.Mine decided to take off with me once, over a year ago and I didnt get back on (big mistake).,as I only had one foot in the stirrup and I like you lost my balance and off I came.Yep sure does hurt.
It seems your boy loves jumping lol

I fell off herbs today while jumping. (did an amazing superman impression :p ) You just reminded me I also filled in that survey. They certanly have alot to answer for don't they.
Although 8 years without a fall is prity good going it's only been 2 years since my last fall.
Hope you are ok after your dismount.

sounds like mine! My sister was riding him and the tiniest crosspole in the world was at the other end of the school - he bogged off with her across the school and flew it! She parted company out the other side when he stopped. He loves his jumping!

Thanks for the thoughts... I'm just not sure how to start him off jumping without him going OTT! (I mean these cross poles were all of 6 inches off the ground! Can't get any smaller and he's fine over poles... (I think I'll need a drink before starting!

May I suggest a generous helping of some Pale Cream Sherry - I can tackle the most obstinate obstacle with a good glug!

Hell, I can even take on a whole week at work with the help of my trusty friend!!!

(Do I sound like an alcy?)
