mine does - hopefully not hurting him as the only treat he gets as he's diabetic (vets said ok in small quantities) - he did push his luck recently when the horses were eating he tried to nick one off them!
mine eats them when i am making up feeds, but only when she is waiting for me to cut up the turnip. She always gets a good chunk of that. Then she gets her apple. She is quite strict about her 5 a day
I thought mine was like me (we don't do vegetables!). On the rare day I was cooking some, I found he does like them. But only if they've been peeled. Oh no, not at all spoilt!
Noooooo!! My working sheepdog HATES them and will take them out of any leftovers he has (well.. he is spoilt, but works hard!). He will wash them all and put them in a neat little row next to his bowl with a little sign saying - I told you...I don't like carrots'!!!!
Bryndu
before ben was diagnosed with diabetes he would eat pretty much anything apart from brussel sprouts - but Misty (one of the cats) liked that so he ate it!
In our house you can't use as the carrot nose of your snowman because the dogs will just come and take it off and eat it!
Our vets advise feeding dogs diced carrots instead of treats as its more healthy for them
A couple of my dogs pinch carrots from the horses feed buckets, but when they next go to the toilet all the carrot comes back out, carnt carrot be digested
Mine do - they nick them out of feeds and sacks and they regularly raid my veg basket in the larder - so far this week they have stolen 2 huge potatoes, a swede and who knows how many carrots and they spend hours on the muck heap and my compost heap eating stuff
Both mine love carrots, but the collie drools at the sight of them! Then again he is the only dog I have ever come across who will pinch extra strong mints and crunch them up! And then beg for more!! Weird mutt!
all mine love carrots and will nick them out of the sack, or out of the feed bowls!! my old dog (sadly no longer with me) could smell a carrot in a pocket and pester whoever til he got a bit. mine also sit and dribble for pickled onions!!?
Purdey, my springer adores carrots! I even tested her one day by putting a dog biscuit, a 'rodeo' dog treat and a carrot in front of her to see which one she went for first - yes, the carrot!
Oh God, definitley!! My vet told me when my dog was a puppy that they were far better for training with than dog treat, as they are so low in calories. And he ADORES them! Likewise to others, mine is always stealing them from feed buckets. Little bugger!
Mine gets one at bedtime and he loves it, has had it for years and at 11yo, vet still comments on his fantatsic teeth so must act like a bit of a toothbrush!!
Dylan, our little JRT is addicted to raw carrots, he loves them!! He's also quite good at burying them in random places around the house and then goes back for them later!!
Our three all eat carrots the german shepherd used to be the worst he actually used to steal them out of the horses feed bowl which usually insued much foot stamping and squealing from the horse throwing a paddy. He became very sly at the smash and grab out of her food bowl
my bunch of JRTS are all terrible carrot-thieves, they'll do anything to grab a carrot, risking life and limb diving into feed buckets while horses are eating etc.
Carrots are high sugar though so I guess they're not great for fatties.
Yup, mine love 'em. One of mine also goes mad for apples, it's a nightmare when the apple trees in the garden are in fruit - a major mission to try and get out there and pick up all the windfall before she does - she would happily munch her way through them all,, don't mind her having the odd one but I'm sure too many wouldn't be good for her.
My JRT loved a few pieces of carrot every few days when I would be preparing dinner. He was on a mostly all meat diet, home cooked, or raw chicken wings every day. He looked super fit and fabulously athletic so I dont really see why he needed carrots (indigestable etc) However maybe they can get some VitA value from them. Dogs get most Vit A from offal particularly liver, so maybe its indicative of a deficiency in this vitamin.
My two BC's are also carrot thieves. Montydog has eaten every dog safe fruit and veg offered to him. In fact, I haven't found anything he won't eat yet lol. Storm is a little more selective. Montydog loves his daily cod liver oil capsule. He moves it around his mouth till he gets it in the right place then you hear 'pop!' lol. Storm won't touch them.
yep my choc lab loves them too, she nicks them from feed buckets while the horse has his head buried in it! when i make the feeds she gets her carrot then runs off to enjoy it in peace, shes also started taking the odd piece of apple now,
