You do indeed, my sister very kindly made me a photo frame for Christmas with photos from my competition and the plaque in the middle. We didn't do very well, but we went and we had fun!
Yep, they have a bit more of a championship atmosphere usually - banners and flowers etc around the arenas. The ones I've been to have had a tack check before your test and sometimes a mounted prize giving. You will also have 2 judges so bit more like going to regionals.
Don't forget you can't carry a whip and there are no callers Have fun!
We did our first once last year and I loved it! It has a great atmosphere, but much more friendly than regionals! I felt like I'd qualified for an important event, was proud to be there and I enjoyed that the commentator introduced me into the arena by reading a bio about my horse and I! I was delighted to finish 6th in the Novice Restricted section and I was so pleased with my rosette.
Definitely remember to pick up your plaque (but note these are just plastic, not like the bit metal ones you get at things like HOYS!).
If you do go, make sure to take along someone who can take lots of photos for you! The pro at my AF wasn't very good at all and I was very disappointed with their pro photos, but my OH filmed my test and took photos from the warm-up and afterwards with our rosette (it was an unmounted prize giving but we took photos back at the lorry on the ground with the horse).
Really wish we could be back there this year, but sadly horse is injured and I don't think will be well enough in time to qualify Already had to cancel our regionals.
I got the shock of my life when I won a prelim AF with my 14hh 16 year old Welsh part bred pony! We were 5th to go in a huge class and I kept saying I'd take him home and come back in the car to watch the rest as soon as a score higher than ours went up. Four hours later we were down to two to go and I had to go and speedily replait him in case we were needed for the mounted prize giving - I felt super sick waiting for the final scores to go up and didn't believe we'd really won!
The winter champs at Hartpury were a brilliant experience too, we were seventh in our section and best veteran
You'll have a great time, just smile and enjoy it. Good luck!
