Unless you start the whole programme of the seven games from the very start, with an instructor who knows what why when how u do certain bits at certain times you will never have a true understanding of 'Natural Horsemanship'...its not all about smacking/hitting/beating ur horse into submission at all. As Rema said and various others, it can and will help in very difficult circumstances. Ok i agree monty and kelly handle it alot better but thats my personal view. Last night Lynda picked on 1 particular area that Margit wasn't doing correctly, i personally would have shown how to deal with the 'TAIL PULLING' to explain better why it was being done but then no doubt somebody would have picked on something else they where demonstrating.
I'll jump off my soap box now....
Problem there rema, I tried playing parelli with my horse but became scared of her, so now I never ride my horse and am planning on selling her on project horses for 4k (because she is a parelli horse ) but still preach at other people on how parelli is great and everyone else is evil to there horses
Do you know what was going on with the tail-pulling then?
I could see last night how it can all go wrong when amateurs have a go. The woman whipped the ground too early in front of the horse and then totally confused him for ages.

emm methinks that rema is at the wind up

sorry, the old psychic powers aren't what they used to be!!
thing is, i would fully expect some of the NH/Parelli followers to post replies like that.. of course that is not to say they are all bonkers
I really do think that the carrot sticks are very usefull but expensive.I'm afraid i made my own with a bamboo cane and blue rope.It works just as well.Has anybody else made their own carrot stick!.We could ask admin if we could sticky a thread for us Parelli people to share hints and tips on making out own equipment.Anybody else agree??.

You see the thing with Parelli is you have to think like a horse and act like a horse. It is all about respecting eachother and seeing things from the horses point of view.I often pull my horse around the arena by his tail it is me telling him that i want to go this way so you must follow me.He will quite often let me pull him around for a couple of hours quite happily.

I don't know enough about Parelli to comment, but pulling a horse about by its tail for two hours? TWO HOURS???? Why? For what purpose? What does this achieve apart from a mightily pissed off horse I should imagine?

Im confused
Ive never seen any of my horses pulling each other around by their tails. And apart from eating they never do anything for a couple of hours. Can someone explain how doing this is acting like a horse?
And Becca_x... i dont think i've ever seen parelli advocate pulling your horse over with ropes around its legs, although correct me if i'm wrong. Some people used to break horses this way a long time ago but i cant remember the name for it.
I think these people were just fools... oh no wait, parelli and fool is the same thing.

Have you tried to play ball with your horse?.It can be such a fun game.My horses adore it.They cannot wait to play. You really must try it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do I do this while pulling my horses tail? Or do I pull him by his tail to the ball? Or do I pull his tail if he won't play with the ball? Or do I pull his tail if he bursts the ball??
Ah i knew some of you would come round to the Parelli way.You can do it any way.Hopefully your horse wont burst the ball.I find the gym balls you can buy at argos very good and quite tough. It's best not to pull the tail whilst playing ball as it would confuse your horse. But you try to see if you could tail pull towards the ball and see if he will play ball with his hind legs.It might take some practise.I would love to see some photo's if you can.

I think Pat Parelli is a genius. Anyone who could dress like a member of the Village People (let's all sing Y M C A) and sell orange sticks and DVDs for a MEGA load of money is a genius.
I need to change a light bulb in my living room, but maybe if I play games with the bulb for a few hours, the light bulb will want to be changed!
How about ditching the carrot stick, the 7 games, the dvds etc and using some COMMON SENSE instead?
tell you what, CS is a pure genius, and if you add some observation to it - the world is your oyster!!!
Right so I just popped out to go see my horse, luckily I have an Argos ball (for reasons I seem to have forgotten, or at least never put into action
), it was a bit dark in the field so I struggled to see the ball, however I dragged my horse by his tail for a while to see if I we could find the ball together by working in unison...... I then decided this was a bit silly and so we moved into the stable and turned the lights on - I found it much easier to be able to keep hold of his tail this way, however he still would not play, luckily I had my 12 foot long white line slung around my shoulders so I could flick this in his face a few times.... I think this helped him get the idea as he moved very quickly towards the ball, which by now was at the back of his stable.
Very pleased with my first training session
You lot do not deserve my knowledge of parelli. When i next go to a Parelli clinic i will take with me the thoughts that something i believe in and cherish is a wind up.i cannot understand why everyone does not practise parelli when so much good comes of it.

Probably for the same reason that the church of Scientology is only popular in certain circles...
What good can come out of pulling a horses tail and smacking its face with sticks, unless you wanted to be kicked which would happen to me if i did it to my horse!
