Something that actually works as I'm going through the shop bought stuff likes it going out of fashion and it's hurting my wallet... not to mention the fact that it's crap!

Ok im in the same boat but with midges! I live in a house basically surrounded by trees and a stream so its a breeding ground for the little bastards! lol I also go through a full standard size bottle DAILY! its no joke.... plus like ya say it doesnt work.

there is one answer for around the yard and paddock though. Im buying a midge magnet. it works basically by letting off carbon dioxide, it attracts ANY blood sucking insects. it then uses techi flow techonogiy and vacums them in. they are contained in a pot at the bottom of the machine which is then gentley heated and they perish and die

Im paying £500 for mine but in the long run it,ll be worth it. cos not only will my horse get releif so will i and my family.

Im not sure if they are any good for horse flies i,ll look into it and see. the smaller machine ( which im getting) covers upto half an acre of land.

Mother hen its ok. I understand that youd be wary of such a device but trust me my mate has two ( the bigger ones) he paid 1000 each for his cos it covers 1/5 acres. he loves golf and he also is over run with swarms of midges! it was him who put the idea in my head! Mine comes on thursday and i am praying away every single day until it does cos you wouldnt beleive how plagued we are with those nasty little [****] bags!

the scottish LOVE these machines especially in the highlands were there is big midge and fly infestaion.

the best part about them is after a few weeks the population drops and then NO MORE friggin flys!

cintronella and deet! it doesnt work! those little beasty bugs laugh when i spray with that! they seem to enjoy it!

who'd have thought something so small coulg irritate so much? lol

im also in Scotland and my house and fields are surrounded by trees and the bliddy midges make our lives hell , i do not go outside unless i have my full midge suit on,my horse also has her flyrug on most of the time .. im yet to find any fly repellant that works for more than 2 mins with the midges .. i have also looked into those machines.. i will wait to see how you get on with it jordonross....

Boil garlic cloves about 10 with tea, vinegar and water, till the garlic is mushy, add water if dries up then strain and add a few drops of citreonella.... works as well as shop ones bits stink and doesnt keep well.

ahhhh good call - I used that before when one of the horses at my old yard got lice.... Don't know why I didn't think of it! Thanks for reminding me!
