Who's had their horse freezemarked?

Following the theft of my friends horse 2 weeks ago :mad: I am now debating having the boys freezemarked as both load straight away with no issues. Not bothering with the mare as she doesn't load & is such an alpha mare with an attitude that they'd soon bring her back :p:

Who's had their horses done & do you think it's still easy to cover a freezemark up with a rug or whatever? Do you think they are effective? I don't like the look of them but I'd be devastated if something happened to my boy. Just read the farm key website & says you can have a personalised mark which I might do made up of 3 letters & a number, this way it's easy for people to recognise or remember if he was stolen.
 
Yes I had my cob and miniature shetland done, because they are both easily steal able and possibly desirable, although mainly just irreplaceable to me. My friend also had her Andalusian done at the same time. It worked out quite well because I could just get their names in the 4 and 3 letters that were available on the saddle area, and she got two letters on her shoulder. I was really worried about it because my cob is black and imo good looking so I didn't want to spoil him. To be honest I don't really notice it now because its just become part of him, but it would be very hard to hide. I think it would make people think twice because now with social media you can kick up an enormous fuss when horses go missing.
 
Ive had both of mine done :) I used freezemark ltd, so theres only 3 letters, no number

my boy was done just short of 2 weeks back so there isn't much to see yet. But my mare has had hers for about 3 years. I don't notice it anymore, its just there :) I think their a good deterrent :)

My boy is a tb which I've always thought are less desirable but friends that's disappeared off the face of the earth was ISH so bit worried atm. The welsh d x I believe was used in cart owned by travellers according to his passport so he may be more desirable.. But both would happily load themselves. Thanks or your replies.
 
I had my boy done when I first got him, I used Farmkey, the lady who did it was brilliant and George wasn't bothered having it done in the slightest. I seem to remember that I couldn't ride for a week (had it done on his back) but he was never really sore. The only problem was that his mark is S61D but the 6 came out looking more like a O (looked like it said SOLD :eek:), but farmkey came back out with no quibble and re-did the 6 and it was fine.
 
Get it done ASAP, you won't even 'see' it after a few weeks, and you will know you have done what you can to protect your horse :-)))))

I have a standard one on my ISH gelding, it reads as TOAD altho the O is a 0' very suitable for him!

And my Haffie has 1HAF personalised one (HAF1 had gone!) , she is also microchipped as we lived close by a dodgy travellers site and they were a bit too interested in her.

They are a big deterrent and a great help with recovery.

It's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. The horses barely noticed it, make much more fuss having their teeth done!
 
I've got mine done. This one is marked on the shoulder as I am wary of having one done in the saddle area again. When I had my previous pony marked in the saddle area a patch of skin stayed bald and this caused problems as the bare patch sometimes looked sore after I'd done a long ride.
 
Iv just had my Boy done. Won't start to show through for the next couple of months but at least iv had it done and in my opinion worth every penny.

He is also microchipped under my name but its not a physical deterrent to thieves. A nice mark on the saddle, shoulder, thigh (depending on colouration)

He didn't even notice it was being done so I know he wasn't in any pain.
 
My grey is Freezemarked. In the winter I trimmed the hair over the mark so it was visible. His rugs are sprayed with his freezemark number as a warning and to prevent those being nicked
 
All mine are, wouldn't have one without one. They are a visual deterrent that work much better than a chip because people can see them. I have warning signs on all my gates too. I know you can never be total secure but this goes a long way to giving me some peace of mind.
 
My horse was freeze marked and micro chipped when I bought him. I was never really sure about freeze marks before but I don't notice it and I think if I had another I would have it done.
 
i think they are a great idea and will be getting my mare done, i have chosen to have it done on her shoulder, do i have it done on the right so any passing traffic (we mostly hack) can see it before anyone may get thoughts or am i over thinking this?
 
Farmkey did my mare at weekend - on shoulder. She moved around a bit but was soon distracted by feed in her bowl. Area is raised, told this would happen and I can ride her again tomorrow. Impressed with service. Will be spraying it on her rug and have bought sign to go in yard about horses being freeze marked. All my horses have been freezemarked.
 
Absolutely. All of mine are freezemarked. Opted for a personalised mark on my sec D -'R0B' with the horseshoe micromark underneath the 0 :D
