Who's horses don't gallop joyfully to them when called?!

My mare squeals like a pig as soon as she hears my car and will continue to make 'hur hur' noises until a buckets in front of her! P will plod slowly over if I'm lucky, though I often need to retrieve him as he can't figure out how to get around the fencing (though he manages it the rest of the time!)

If he's hungry and he thinks there might be food available, he'll mooch over as slowly as possible.

We have an ongoing power battle about coming in from the field. He thinks I should come to him, I think he should come to me. If he does decide to come to me, he won't come all the way - he gets to about 2m away from me and stops and waits for me to get him. I am currently calling his bluff by standing there nonchalently eating an apple. I tend to win the battle at the moment

90% of the time my two come when called even when out on 25 acres. My boy always whinneys or neighs and waits for me to get to him if he hasn't run over.
The pony went through a stage of hiding last year and I'd spend hours (literally) looking for her in the dark, naughty pony.

1 does 1 doesn't!

Blue is a grumpy sod who won't come over when he's called i usually have to trek over to him and prise his head from the grass/hay!

Merlin comes charging over if i call him - which is brilliant!

Mine always come over when I arrive - but then I normally have something nice for them so it is in their interest to do so.

Ditto when I put out, they stand nicely and get a minty cube after I have removed the head collar, so I don't have the problem of horse rushing off when turned out.

If you call Maisy she looks up at you, if you have a bucket she will stand still and while you still have to go to her

she will let you catch her.
If you don't have a bucket... Good luck

With mine its:

Poor grass/bad weather = galloping joyfully when called
Good grass/bad weather = mild interest
Poor grass/good weather = ditto
Good grass/good weather = complete apathy/Do I know you?

My old boy used to charge at you full gallop (a bit off putting when it was a really black night) then just before he got to me he would revert to trotting around me as if on an invisable lunge line

He was old and had come from a riding school so knew all the tricks of the trade - soon as you got a headcoller on him he would follow you like a little lost puppy.

Once in winter I could not catch him. It had been a nice day so I had turned him out without a rug on. He stayed out for two weeks like that grrrr little monkey!

My old girl has always comes to the gate as soon as she sees or hears me, regardless of grass/weather

The big lad may follow her or not depending on weather/time. The new big lad (only had him since Saturday) just keeps eating until I get to him

Your horse is clearly not hungry enough! In the summer my mare will stand and stare at me as I walk all the way across the field to get her...in the winter she comes running to the gate at the mear sound of my voice, that is if she's not already waiting at the gate!

exactly what my horse is like!!

My horse tends to look up, stare at me, and go back to eating.
On a good day he walks to me - so slowly that you'd think he only had 2 legs...
However, my friend came with me one day, and he came galloping over, jumping the ditch in his field in the process! (and he's scared of ditches?!?!) He then proceeded to mug my friend

*sigh* I feel unloved...

Mine looks up when called, and goes right back to eating. When I get close, he'll often start to amble towards me.

If he's in pony jail, on the other hand, he's usually waiting by the fence whickering when I come down the path, and will then hurry to meet me at the gate.

Nope.... he just looks at me with interest and may, if the mood takes him, wander in my direction.... stopping for a pee and a poo on the way
smile.gif

If he is out alone he might look a tad more pleased....... but then again he might not

My girl ALWAYS walks over from whereever she is in the field when she see's/hear's me....bless her....I've only had her 3 weeks and think it's more food association!

Ellie occasionally will come to meet me but normally watches me walk across to her while pretending to ignore me and be super interested in the blade of grass in front of her

Bella is a madam
mad.gif
One day she will walk away as I get to her, the next she will pretend not to see me til I'm stood next to her
mad.gif
and then again on another days she will come to meet me at a rather sedate pace like every step is a major effort
frown.gif

When I turn her back out then she will canter away with tail in the air and ears pricked as though she hasn't seen her fieldmates in weeks

F often calls a pleased nicker, but insists I am always half way across the field before he starts to amble over.

Sumer/lots of grass - she raises her head and looks at me.
As the grass deteriorates - I get more interest.
Currently, I call and she mooches over to me. As it gets colder and she gets hungrier to wards the end of the day - she'll be a bit more enthusiastic.

It's all cupboard love.
