and what benefits does it provide?
I am in a very small club near to me. They do lots of social events (quiz nights, pub meals etc) but not much else! I'm not sure it's worth the membership.
There are some bigger clubs around here - But is it fair to join more than 1?
When I was a teenager I was in a fantastic club. There were dedicated people to do team jumping, teams of 3 and quadrille with at a high level. I'm not finding it the same here.

I am (or I will be when I re-new my membership!) It good. They have lessons with a few very good local instructors which cater for all levels and are dressage, gridwork and SJ course and they are cheap! We also have events throughout the year, HT, SJ, ODEs, Le trec which as a member you get reduced rates.

Are there no more near you that you could try? Im not in one at the minute but one I used to be in used to have training days (X country, showjumping and dressage), rally days, camp, pleasure rides, fun shows, things like that. It was really good but unfortunately too far away for me to go now.

im just about to fill out my membership form for the local 1 that all but me & a girl (whose in PC) arent with - ive never joined 1 before. It holds rallies most w/ends & they have a 2ft club for young/nervous horses/riders & they have members only shows & other things like rider fitness & pilates

I'm in 2 RC's, one in London and one in Scotland.

I just use the one in London for lessons so not sure what it's like apart from that.

The one in Scotland is more active and puts on lessons for flat, SJ and X country and a few social things but it's always the same few people at every event

I am really just a member to be supportive as I've been in it for about 10 years now and used to be on the committee till moved to London.

Riding Clubs vary a lot. Some are very competitive and train up lots of teams, others are more social. If you don't think this one suits you, ask around to see what sort of character the others have. I see you are in Kent, so I should think there is a good variety there.

Around here there is a Dressage Group (which specialises in dressage, but also puts in teams in the one day event) another one with a big junior membership, another that just organises shows and competitions and another one that has weekend training sessions, does teams and has social events. You can be in more than one if you like, but I don't think you can represent more than one in a team in any one year.

I'm in one and might join another fairly local one. Ours is Ok and usually sends two to three teams to each qualifier. They will always have room on a team if people want to try out for them and go to quals. There are weekly lessons with the same trainer and they rotate flat, sj, grids, working hunter. We sometimes have lectures from nutritionists and dentists and those are good. In the summer we have treasure hunts and other social things.
We put on two shows a year as well. I'm on the committee of our club and it's always the same people who help out and stuff which can be a bit of a drag.
I'd join the other local one too (although I won't be able to compete for them unless I don't compete for the one i'm already in) because they do a lot more and i go to all of their shows and would save lots of money on entry fees!

I'm actually thinking of joining a third club up in Scotland as although my old club do a lot of lessons and things close by, they don't do much else or it is cancelled and postponed all the time beacause of a lack of indoor venues.

I also wanted to do the team SJ in November but not a single other person put their names down lol. At least if I am in another club I might get to do some of the team things...

Hi...what club in Kent are you with?? Im a member of Maidstone & District and a member of the commitee also. We do alot of the team stuff aswell as social stuff like quizes and rides etc, everyones really nice

There are also alot of other bigger clubs around who compete alot - are enemies heheheh

I'm in a fantastic riding club and I love it. They're all really friendly and very supportive at area qualifiers. They run show jumping and dressage competitons monthly as well as monthly jumping and flatwork rallies. They also have dressage clinics every now and again and cross country lessons in the summer. But it's a riding focussed group so they don't do any social events.

I'd rather not say which club I'm in in case it reflects badly on them.

I know Folkestone does a lot of jumping (which is not my thing) there is a new club called Moat View up the road and as I have done quadrille etc in the past (and they just won with their first quadrille at Olympia!) I may try there. Basically I just want help with flatwork and some shows being run would be great too.

I guess it really is

I like how they won't turn you down for teams. If you want to go they'll put together a B or C team (Or D team!

)
Sometimes we have a couple of quieter months - The shows are always good; we do a spring showing show with dressage running alongside and then we do a september show with pony games and showjumping

and Trec

Wells ours may be worth looking at - we have weekly flatwork clinics as well as weekly SJ clinics. We have 2/3 teams for each disapline and usually do ok and attend the champs in Lincoln each year. As Law mentioned, no one gets turned down for a team, instead we have the A team and somtimes B/C team

This year we have lots planned including combined training days, SJ clinics, dressage clinics and demonstrations with a local top dressage rider (i shall double check the name)!! And the usual qualifiers and summer dressage series

MrsMagoo - I hope you don't see us as enemies, ha ha!!!

Mickey - I'm also in a RC, bit further West than 'Mrs' above!
Our Club does a bit of everything. We hold 3 Dressage/Combined Training/SJ competitions per year; 2 low key evening Dressage and Jumping comps; a Horse Trials, a couple of Hunter Trials plus an Eventers Challenge.

We also have a whole herd of people who are keen Team members and last year we had 1 team forward for the Quadrille, 2 pairs that won at Addington in the Pas de Deux dressage to music; a couple of people who competed at the new solo dressage to music competition, and also attended the London & South East Champs in all disciplines.

A dressage chap gives midweek lessons, plus we invite other trainers from all disciplines. Basically we'll invite any registered trainer if enough people want them.

Finally, there's no reason why you can't join more than one Club. You can only compete for 1 Club at Area competitions per BRC year.

I used to belong to 2 other local Clubs. One because they were closer and planned to do more social stuff - that never came about! And the other for their Mock Hunting!

I'm in one in Cumbria - we organise instruction, ODE, dressage training and competition, SJ practice evenings, WH, group rides, combined training and loads more.

Extremely social bunch - great fun

I am in one. They offer local dressage and SJ shows in the summer. Our area holds dressage and SJ friendlies and our RC always puts teams in for qualifying competitions in dressage, SJ, Hunter Trials and ODEs

I am. I really enjoy it too, and am on the committee. We do regular lessons/clinics (aim for one dressage, one SJ and one XC a month), also have various competitions most months, put teams forward for all the area qualifiers, and have social events too. One of my favourite things though is that even when I go toa competition alone, which I do quite a lot, there is almost always someone I know from the riding club there to have a chat with!

I am, I really like it and I'm on the commitee so free membership

We cater for all levels in sj (and team jumping), dressage, showing, driving, combined training and hunter trials. We have regular events throughout the summer (outdoors) and a presentation evening to award those with the most points. I think it's fab and well worth the £20 a year membership!
