Hiya

After much deliberation have decided to do my Cat C1 so that when I pass it I will be able to drive up to a 7.5t.

I have seen that I need to have a medical to apply for my provisional, then take my theory before I can take some lessons etc...

Has anyone one else took the plunge, hopefully you passed, but do you regret it or are you happy with your choice so that you can drive a bigger lorry...?

How long did it take.....I have heard the courses are very intense and hard, but I'm prepared to put the work in as have decided a 3.5t is not for me as I will need to always travel 2 and need a higher payload, so am hoping to get a 5.5t or 6t lorry.....so excited now I have made the decision!!! :)

Any advise would be fab...xx

meee!

Did a 3 day course and test. failed the first time for hesitating at a zebra crossing, it was that or run over the kid that ran infront of me, only had one minor so was gutted. Had one lesson and did my test again and passed with 2 minors. Was intense and quite stressful but I am glad I have it!

I did my cat 'C' when I was 18. Best thing I have ever done, although I only drive a 7.5t Horsebox at the moment it gives me the option to get an hgv and a bonus if I wanted to work in the horsey world.

I did my medical and my theories. Once they were done I called a company to book the intense training I did 4 days of 3 hours training each and the test day with a lesson before. I found it great doing it that was as everything is fresh in your mind. Best thing I've ever done - go for it!

Dependant on what vehicle the company you choose has to teach C1 you may be as well doing the full C licence. Some places use a small vehicle for the C1 but if they use a proper 7.5t waggon there is actually very little difference between doing the C1 and your full C licence. I did my full C and am hooked. Saving up to do my C+E now.

Wonderful thanks everyone...... I will look into cat C thought it would be a lot harder then C1 but if not might as well do it.

I only really want to get a smaller 6T type that should be ample.......just wasn't able to get the absolute min payload of 1300kgs that I would need in the 3.5 types without them being really lightweight built. Enquired about a lovely 6T and it has a payload of 2500kgs so happy days ..... with that sort of payload can put it all on, with passengers and take the dog too....yay..!! Xx
