QUESTION

Whaen do you turn out for summer when do you bring them in for winter??

just found out horses may not go out tommorrow as planned and may be comming in in october!!

is it just me or do most people like the 6 months in / 6 months out

I prefer 8 months out and 4 months in (Dec-Mar inc.), depending on weather. I would be seriously fed up if they were still in now!

Ours go out in April (weather permitting) and come back in Oct, sometimes Nov if weather ok. Got six acres for three horses in summer and 4 acres for 2 horses in winter.

Ours normally go out 1st May and come in 1st October which isnt exactly 6/6months. Personally if I had my own land they would go out as soon as the ground started to dry out (like it was at the end of March this year)
Ours went out the last week in April this year, but due to my accident mine have been living out on our winter paddocks since the end of March and my YO didnt mind.

Mine have been out since end of March, days like today, rain, they have their summer turn-outs on. They are fat, happy and well.

i wish my horse had gone out in april.
she only goes out every other day!
and the yard owner has refused to put her out because she darts off at 100mph just as youve undone the headcoller (naughty)
but she wants to be out poor mildred

Mine has year round turnout, but I tend only to turnout for a fews in the day Sept/Oct - April/May and then she goes out at night April/May - Sept/Oct. We can basically do what we want, so I do what suits my mare best, and try not to trash the field too much as she tends to suffer from mudfever.

i tend to bring solo in in late sept/early oct and then turn him out late april/early may. he hates going out in winter, i like being able to keep more of an eye on him and his mud fever gets so horrid that even when he does go out, sometimes its only for 3 hours. it works for me and sol!

Mine are kept on my parents farm so I have all the say in when they are in and when thy are out. I try to keep them out as much as I can. In the summer they are out 24/7 and in the winter they still have 10 hours aday in the field. Mine have been out 24/7 now for a few months, with rugs initially. I don't have a set date for when they come in or out, just see how it goes, how happy they are and what the weather does!

We've got 24/7 turnout all year round if we wish. We just go by the weather - their night-time field has no shelter, so they come in over night if the weather's miserable in the summer. They're in every night in the winter - turned out daily from about 8am-4pm. I would never stable them on a yard that didnt provide all year turnout - it would drive them mad i think!

Ours have day turnout September to about May time. Then from about May time, depending on field conditions they get 24 hour turnout

Mine are out 24/7 all year, but today they are going out in the field that has no shelter and hopefully will stay there for the summer to let the other fields recover

Mine have been out since end of march and will stay out as long as the good weather holds out, or when yard owner says, but usually we hang out for as long as we can coz winter is so depressing.

mine have just started to go out all day & night, and will bring them back in when the weather starts to turn, I guess oct time... It's great more time to ride now and not mucking out...

Our yard has 24/7 turnout too if we want. Mine have been out since end of march and will come in oct/nov depending on weather

Mine are out 24/7 all year round with access to a field shelter, & I only bring them in overnight if the weather's nasty.

We have 24/7 turnout if we want it but I bring in at night in winter. Usually start when the clocks change to make it easy to ride before work then turn out again as soon as the ground is dry enough.

I don't like 24x7 t/o any time of the year unless for a specific reason (for example horse unhappy to be boxed etc) - I prefer to keep to a similar routine summer & winter, but do extend the grazing time in summer so they come in later.

At the yard they are out mid April till beginning of Nov depending on the ground and weather. I just enjoy them being out 24/7 as i really feel they should have much turnout as possible. Also you can spend more time riding and messing about with them instead of mucking out all the time. It's also nice not being tied to particular times for bringing in etc and you can lie in in the mornings!!!
