Who's your horsebox insured with....

We have a 7.5T and a 3.5T and both are insured with SEIB, fully comp with breakdown cover. They seemed a better price than other companies.

Well I've been quoted £330 with SEIB which includes one named driver and breakdown.....on a 6 t. Id have preferred any driver over 25 but doesn't half bump the price up! Still pretty reasonable though.

I'll see what NFU come back with as my horses are insured through them.

Anthony DEvans, they advertise in the back of H n H every week. Very very cheap fully comp with breakdown. same premium on values up to £15k so dont do what I did, to try to keep the premium down, I undervalued my wagon, but it would have cost the same regardless of value! Doh!
Also, while my wagon was off the road, it only cost an extra £5 to put the breakdown cover onto my friends wagon (which was already insured for any driver) while I borrowed that for a couple of weeks.
They are very easy to deal with and extremely efficient! Defo recommend!

By the way, I could have a few named drivers for no extra cost! They were cheaper than NFU for my wagon. I have my horses insured with NFU though

Clara, didyou ever have a claim with them though? I would like a cheap premium but not worth much if they don't pay out when they need to!

No Fortuantely I havent needed to claim.
However I have had the misfortune to claim from NFU for vet fees and they were very very slow at paying for auxillary fees, ie. remedial shoeing, therapy etc... to the tune of nearly £1000, all of which I have had to pay myself at the time. still waiting for invoices submitted in March! Was told yesterday by a stroppy madame at their claim dept that it will be dealt with when they get around to it, it is in a pile and then promptly put the phone down on me!! Charming! Im sure they would be less than pleased if I didnt pay my premium promptly!

My 7.5 ton lorry is insured with Anthony D Evans. I have fully comp, any driver over 25 years & roadside assistance. The renewal premium is £317.36p

I've never had a claim regarding accident or damage to the lorry however I called out assistance one weekend & a mecahnic attended within the hour & sorted out a minor problem.

Mine was with NFU, say was as it was stolen about 5 weeks ago so I have a claim going through at the moment.

I swapped to NFU from Anthony D Evans. Apparently from discussions on here when Evans send a recovery truck if you breakdown they just lift the front wheels and tow you with the horses in the back. NFU actually send another horsebox for the neddies and then your empty lorry is towed, for me that seems a much better/safer way of doing things. I think I paid about £20 more to insure with NFU but felt it worth it to have a local office to deal with and what I consider a better recovery package.

Having spoken to lots of coachbuilders in the last few weeks they all ask who I was insured with and when I tell them NFU tell me I will have no problem, they are one of the better companies to deal with. One builder finds it very frustrating to deal with the underwriters used the Evans & Co.

I will be able to tell you more about how good NFU are when my claim is settled!

As you can gather my renewal is up shortly & I have been checking with NFU as well. Unfortunately my car was hit whilst parked & unattended about a month ago. It hasn't made any difference witrh Anthony D Evans (£317 with roadside assistance) but with NFU they actually just quoted £596.91. I have declined their offer of cover

& will be going with Evans.

Just be careful - one of the main things people tend to need to use is breakdown cover with lorries and you want to know it's reliable and legal! There are some companies out there offering breakdown but what they do is not actually legal - ie towing a wagon with your horses in! They should NOT be doing this.

This is something i have recently been made aware of as the company I work for are looking at incorporating breakdown cover to their horsebox insurance and it is quite shocking these other companies out there are using these 'dodgy' recovery companies.

With NFU Fully Comp and with breakdown cover. And if you keep lorry at home, get Homestart (they tried to charge me £250 when I called them out to my home address!!)

Mrs T your right about towing bit with Evans - they will call out your local chaps out and if your very, very luckly you'll get 44tonner low loader if NOT your horse has to be tow with front of truck off ground....................

Unlike NFU and Shearwater to my knowledge as they will bring out another vehicle to take you horse home or to stable up. As this is why I didn't re-insurance with A Evans, as my last truck broke down and i had a good chat with Evans (at side of road), that i was very unhappy about my horsebox being lifted at front and towed whilst horse on board.

In fairness to the company that came out they were brilliant BUT i was very luckly as ended up with the low loader - thank god

It just one of thoses extra things to take account of.........

We are with NFU cant remember off hand how much, Shearwater wont touch us, cos we only hunt therefore means lorry is left many a time abandoned on side of a road or track or un attended in a farm yard, so they say its more liable to get smashed up by hunt sabs, I personally think thats a little over the top.
