I thought it was just ours which was solid, but having ust read on another forum it seems most are - what is yours currently like?

Ours was out of action due to the snow for a week, then it cleared and we had a few days use, then it pissed it down with rain for several days and since it has barely come above freezing (in fact, has liteerally come above freezing for an hour or so a day) it hasn't yet thawed!

yes mine is still frozen solid!!! just been up to try dragging the grader around to try and help it on it's way - but that was a complete waste of time! back in by the fire now - thinking that this is defintely the best place to be xx

Ours is frozen same as yours but at least we can turnout because it is nice and dry (owner wont let them out if it gets too wet), so swings and round abouts for us.

Our outdoor is frozen solid and still covered in snow

I want to take a giant hairdryer to it.
There's no turnout in the winter, the roads are icy and the gallops are frozen too so its very busy in the indoor and "interesting" trying to ride around all the horses finally getting exercised. I always try to ride with someone who has a calm horse.

Ours luckily has had turnout most days over the past couple of weeks! Our gateway is lethal so we're having to lead them out and get on on the common outside!

Our arena has been frozen solid from about the 14th December.

The roads are off limits due to the ice.

I love snow but hate the ice!!

Mine isn't!!
It is Trackright and Equimulch rubber on top. Only days I can't ride is when there are a few inches of snow on it.
It is quite raised though and very well draining.

Saying that though, not many days I want to ride at the moment, too cold!!

Ours was frozen for ages, then eventually thawed enough to ride, but I haven't been there yesterday or today and we had a lot of frost and ice last night so I'm thinking it's probably frozen again.

Not being able to ride is the worst thing about this weather - if we had an indoor school, the ice and snow probably wouldn't bother me at all!

Ours is frozen and has been for the majority of the last few weeks other than a few days last week when it was ok.

Problem is it is very exposed up on the moor and if it is around freezing it goes solid very quickly.

Thankfully haven't had much snow so have some turnout and a horsewalker so the horses are being exercised/turnout of a fashion. the roads have been fairly lethal as well to point that I have ridden about 3 times in last 2 weeks.

Hoped might have gotten out today and although I could get to the yard it was too risky to ride, won't be able to ride all week (come after work so can't go on roads and school frozen) so if I'm lucky I 'might' next be able to ride next weekend looking at forecast

Ours has been usable every day

even when it has snow on top it was still fine to ride on (big rubber pieces no sand). It's usually a bit hard first thing in the morning but by about 11 or 12 it''s thawed out.

Our outdoor is frozen solid in the mornings, but just about usable by the afternoon, although not today. Fortunately we have an indoor school and all year turnout!

Sorry ours has been usable everyday this winter, its big chunks of rubber & the drainage is good & we have had very little snow.

I do feel for those who are snowed & frozen in used to live in Scotland having to go weeks with no riding or turnout. I remeber trying to school round 3' snowdrifts for weeks after most of the snow had gone!

mine has been fine, not a day i havent been able to ride. its silica sand topped with LOTS of rubber chunks-it seems to be the only arenas NOT freezing are rubber topped....

mine is very well draining, which helps as no waterlogging issues, which then freeze.

even with a few inches of snow on top, it breaks up easily and you can ride on it.it was *crispy* today but broke up ok and i rode as normal.

the two yards i teach at have plain sand, and a sand/pvc mix and they have both been frozen solid since before xmas, iv barely seen any of my clients except the ones that were willing to travel to my yard. one person is so sick of its she's sending her mare to me for two weeks just so she can have some work!!!!

Yes ours is frozen and with the forecast ahead won't be unfrozen for a while - main roads are ok so still getting out but taking it very easy and doing hill work mainly in walk just in case there is an unexpectedly ice spot.

Thankfully pony lives out 24/7 so don't have to worry about exercise other than as weight control.

Yep - sand and chopped trainers! Well frozen. The horsewalker is also too slippy as there is a layer of ice under the fresh snow. Road is sheet ice, managed to get down the grass verge to ride round a nearby field about 3 days ago but then we had more snow, riding down the verge wasn't ideal when silly TB decided the road would be better then did a bambi on ice impression! Totally rubbish, wish the snow and ice would b*gger off - poor ponies (and jockeys) are sooo bored!

I've just ridden & jumped in the menage

It's sand covered with rubber & is fine! It's pretty new & extremely well draining. I'm the only livery, so there's only the owner & myself who use it. We take it in turns to harrow it weekly (even if only been used a couple of times) so is very well maintained.

Am very lucky as most arenas here are frozen solid. Our gallops are frozen

Yes, mine is too! Silica sand with chopped rubber on top. The sand is frozen solid. The surface is quite old so getting a bit thin in places, but today I found that there is just enough rubber on the outside track to make walk & trot work OK, so managed 1/2 hour. It was nice to get self and horse warm for once! Forecasting snow and -7 this week though so may not be many more rides for a while. Still seem to spend as long at the yard though, because everything else takes so much longer, what with frozen taps and having to cart buckets everywhere. I HATE WINTER! Still, 10% of January has gone - nothing like wishing your life away!

Mine is frozen solid. It was frozen for 2 weeks, then we had 2 days last week when it was usable (typically one horse had lost a shoe, and another was lame). And now my horse/s have shoes on, and are sound again it is frozen and covered in a layer of snow. Blooming typical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ours in sand and rubber, we have had about a week in between the frosts which we were able to ride in it, but other than that they have been stable bound or if its not to bad we have been walking them out through the forest but even thats very slippery so we have to be very careful
