After ringing 40+ riding schools, livery yards, stud farms, equine supply stores, equine feed suppliers for work I've resorted to a cleaning job, yes I might have to clean toilets to support my passion.

I went to look at a perfect horse share last Wednesday but got let down by the owner, she ignored my calls for 4 days and needless to say I left her a message to say I wouldn't be making it and gave up. Since then I've been looking for local horse shares and nothing, nada.

Anyway, recently I had some exciting news and a lady in a local livery yard said I said until she needed someone I'd help her out for free - so I went along and was told one of her liverys needed a hand riding his 17hh bay mare so I was thrilled about this. But yet again it seems like I've been mislead and let down.

I promised myself that this year I'd really start making something of myself but I just feel like giving up. I've been working so hard recently but I seem to be going backwards. After looking for a horse share and figuring out that it's impossible at the moment I started looking at helping out/riding someone's horses in my local area but no luck with that either. I keep getting my hopes up and finding something perfect in Buckinghamshire then feeling worse when it goes wrong.

How much dissapointment can someone take before they give up?

If you made it this far have some chocolate and wine!

Its not impossible - I 'share' horses in Bucks at the moment.

I do think that not having a car is probably limiting you, even if you don't think it is. None of the horses I've ever shared have been on bus routes or within cycling distance.

If you take your CBT you could get a moped, which would give you a lot more freedom.

Have you put up wanted adverts in local tack shops and online?

Don't give up - just maybe change the way you're looking?

I found a few perfect ones that I've been able to get to but it's been hard to fit it around work, that's why I've been looking to help someone with their horses a few times a week instead. I've put adverts on Preloved, Yard and Groom, Your Horse, UkHorseShares etc

I'd love to take my driving test, I just can't afford it with the work I'm doing haha!

I'll keep going strong, I want this so much, just finding the dissapointment really difficult.

Thanks so much for your reply though :-)

Same here, well perhaps not now with my current situation, but I have always loved my sharers - wouldn't be without them.

Best of luck with your search

Hey their i had to reply just because i thought you sounded so lovely. I'm sorry to hear about your current situation, just thought i'd ask have you tried getting a job with royal mail as a postie? this is what i do its not bad wages and plenty time in afternoon to do horse.

As reguards sharing i am certain you will find someone. I am in scotland but howeveri know of several people who through work commitments etc would love a helper an extra helping hand never goes a miss with horses, please dont give up you really never know what might be around the next corner. I wish you the best of luck xx

Thanks to everyone for their replies, really helped to keep me motivated. I'm hoping that someone will get back to me soon and reply to one of my many adverts online.
Always happy to lend a hand, I'd gladly just muck out all morning to be even slightly around horses.

hi

is oxfordshire too far for you??? someone was asking me the other day if i knew anyone who could provide a bit of weekend mucking out and grooming as owner is pregnant....

Is there a local rda group near you, they always need helpers, I know it's not riding but at least you'll be spending time with horses and you never know, someone there might need a hand with their own horse.

Good luck:)

Thank you so much for this message, I've always wanted to help the disabled to ride and I found a local centre not far from me, I'll definitely do some voluntry work around finding work :-)

Good for you, I used to teach my local rda group at the riding school I worked at and we always needed more helpers.
You only need to get a foot in someone and I bet you'll be riding more than you can ever thought !!

Sounds brilliant, hopefully I'll sort something out :-) PM me if you have more information, sounds like such a good thing to do.

If anyone around the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire area needs an extra set of hands (grooming, tacking up, mucking out, riding etc) please let me know asap! No pay wanted whatsoever.

I've just been let down again and I feel so close to giving up at the moment :-( I just need a break.

Thanks again everyone, your advice has been so wonderful x
