My horse's old owner contacted me today to say she wants to come visit him. I have owned him for two years now and she hasn't been once in that time, yet we did used to know eachother quite well before i got him. Anyway I'm really nervous

He is a bit thin at the moment, he is a poor doer and also quite old, so I'm worried she'll think I'm not taking care of him properly. Also I'm worried she might want to see me riding him, he isn't going very well at the moment so I'm worried she won't like this. Also I am worried she might want him back (probably unlikely as she never really did much with him in the first place but you never know).

Anyway probably a silly post. Ignore me

Don't be worried about it! Embrace her visit as an opportunity to pick her brain for ideas on how to overcome the little issues you are having- she will just be pleased to see him and certainly hasn't got any authority to force you to ride him / let her ride him if you don't want to.
 
Stop worrying, he is your horse now! you don't have to ride him, you know he is cared for. I know it's not as simple as that but have confidence in yourself. If she wants him back it's tough luck really isn't it!

The thing is though I never actually bought him off her, she just gave him to me, no money was passed, no contracts signed or anything. Now that her kids are older she might see him as the perfect horse for them and so want him back. She might see giving him to me as more of a loan than an exchange of ownership (even though it was never described as such) and so think she can just take him back when she wants. And she is quite bossy whereas I am not! I am probably overthinking this.
 
Just turn up in jeans and trainers, take a carrot out into the field with her, then say you are away shopping! That will avoid any expectation of her expecting to see you ride him.
 
Stop worrying! You've bought him so she has absolutely no rights to make comment about how he looks, how you ride him or anything like that. And it doesn't matter whether she wants him back or not, he belongs to you. It's not as though he's on loan and she can terminate the loan - he belongs to you, not her.

I don't get why you'd worry she might want him back, and why it matters if she does anyway, when you own him?

I'm sure she just wants to say hello. I occasionally speak to the people I sold my Sec D to, it's really nice to find out how he's getting on. If I was over that way, I might pop in for 10 mins, say hello to them and give him a polo, but that's as far as it goes. It's probably the same for her so stop stressing
