Took my horse out yesterday hes been off work for months /year with spavin op and tendon and coffin joint prob .Thought he was going to be a nightmare on the roads hes a 7 yr old tb .We walk up to crossing on main road 2 min away from yard and silly driver pulls out last minute and causes speeding motorist to jam on his brakes right in front of us.To make things worse he sticks his hand on his horn and blasts it right in front of our horses.
So proud of my boy he didnt bat a eyelid. My spooky nappy rearer has grown up .Just need to get him sound and I will have the perfect horse. This is the first positive vibe Ive had in about 18 mths and feeling really proud of him.

Had something similar when I pulled over on to verge for car. Driver pulled up level to me, stopped and then blasted his horn. Why?

Luckily horse who is terrified of leaves, flowers, frost etc didn't bat an eyelid.

Cant believe the stupidity of some people. You want to drag them out of the car sit them on your horse and ask them how they would feel if you did something similiar.

Unfortunately most people these days dont think that horses should be on the roads. I'm not saying this is an excuse for drivers being inconsiderate. I think more should be done when people are learning to drive and in the tests to teach them how to drive safely near horses!

So glad your horse didn't react. I had fun today too, took my normally sane 9 year old out for a hack, unfortunately some horse eating dustbins caused him to loose the plot big time (tried to bolt 6 times with me, oh what fun), ended up taking an alternative route in the end!

He never settled and saw scary things everywhere, finally about 100 yards from the yard on a single track lane had an old couple drive right up behind me in their old Micra, I turned round to see this old git with a deathgrip on his steering wheel literally trying to drive me off the road, I tried to pull Centy into a gateway but there was a cattle grid set back so I had to be careful, just as I was half way pulled in, the old git then tried to drive past us revving his car really hard (don't think he understands that gears can be changed), so I turned Centy round to face him and I'm afraid I let rip using very rude words, he raised his finger to shake it at me, so i let rip some more! Hopefully he got the idea!

Sounds like you made a your point, lol was laughting as I read your post.
On the whole I find younger drivers better than older ones.
The other thing Ive noticed is that the people you thank scowl and the ones you cant thank because you are busy with your hands ( Im riding new horse out at the moment )are the ones that smile .

LOl Thanks Cellie, I'm not usually in the habit at swearing at old people, but he seriously deserved it, plus he couldn't miss seeing me both me and my horse are covered in high viz!!!

Agree with you that younger people seem to be a bit more considerate. On my second hack of today I met 8 scramble bikers coming up the same single track lane (was very glad I wasn't on psycho pony for this one), the first rider saw me, signalled to the others to stop and they all stopped and turned their engines off, really really considerate of them. As I was on my safe horse, I signalled for them to start up again and come past me, and I said thank you to every single one of them, that old git could have learnt a lesson or two from them!!!!

Wemt out for a hack this afternoon with my neice and met the nicest driver - there is a small bridge we have to go over and just as we got there huge horse eating pigeons in the trees were flapping their scary wings so stoopid cob was trying to turn round and go home. Meanwhile neice on WB was satnding on opposite verge watching the show when round the corner and down the hill came a 4x4. Only concern was neice on wrong side of road as new stoopid cob would stand still - anyway nice lady stopped and reversed up the hill to give us more room to pass. Stoopid cob then decided forward was way to go and we trotted past trying to wave and maintain dignity at the same time!!

Lol, sorry, but the posts make me feel better

Daughter's cob, who should know better by now, made such a song and dance when the nice bikers started their engines again (had turned off for us to go past), that I thought they were going to get off and brew a cup of tea

. The Dizzy one only seems to find red Royal Mail vans scary, but the driver is used to us and just sits with a 'ho hum' expression on his face as we dance past. Tiggy was fine with everything apart from rocks (don't ask). The sanest of them all, is the youngest (being ridden due to clicky stifles) - she's been a star!

Well they couldnt have been same ones my yo met on same day.One of the lads said lets rev our engines and try and scare the horses.God she put them down a peg or two shes very quick with her words and witty would loved to have seen and heard that one.
Told them that it was a really good idea to scare her horse and would she mind if she trampled over them in the process.
