Why are folks so NASTY ?

As many of you know i lost my little gingerwitch on the 12/7 - my little lad whom has been on box/paddock rest for 12 weeks was finally allowed back into his original field. Two new liveries had arrived in between my lad being on box rest and was in his field - along with my other horse and a couple of others.

All horses went out last Saturday - lots and lots of running around - i was worried sick - horses did not settle.

Sunday - i arrive at yard to be told that the one horse had been moved fields - so my boys went out with the other newbie and the original herd = no issues.

Monday - told horses were going where they went yesterday - so put my boys out - at lunchtime i receive a call from one of the liveries asking me to get an emergency vet - the horses that had apparantly been moved fields was now back in with mine - and the result was an hour and a half vet visit to re-stitch and staple him back together.

Monday night - verbally attacked by owner - told that his horses was staying where it is and i am to get it into my stupid head !

Offered alternative grazing by YO - in a field just under half a mile away with no running water.

I moved yards on Wednesday

I am speechless !
 
I think you have done the right thing by moving yards.

If it was me I would have expected to be allowed to put my horse coming off box rest into a field next to his usual field so that he could meet the new horses over the fence. I would have put by other horse out with him in the new field.

As a rule I would always introduce new horses in adjoining fields rather than throwing them in together from day 1.
 
At least you have moved yards...there is nowt so queer as horse folk.

I hope you like your new place and your horse settles...rise above it, its not worth the bother!
 
That's horrendous. I really feel for you - my horse was kicked twice last winter by a horse belonging to another livery. He ended up on BR for several weeks each time.

She insisted it wasn't her horse as "he never kicks" but it had been seen by another person!! And she never apologised. I know it's not her fault but it's only common courtesy!

I hope your ned is ok & your new yard is better. You were right to move.
 
So from what I understand horses were unsettled first time out together? Was there any kicking at this point? you got told to put your horse in that field and the owner put theirs in the same field a day later?? Result was other horse got kicked? Was that by your fella? Soz brain dead today!

Was your horse ever any bother with that herd before?

It's unfortunate but not all horses are going to live happily together and they haven't had long to settle.

From what I see you've done nothing wrong. If you were told to put your horse in that field by the YM.

Shame you got asked to move tho. Was there any explanaiton for being asked to move?
 
So who authorised the new horse to be put back in with yours on Monday? I assume it had been moved to a different field on Sunday because of the issues which arose when they were all turned out together?
If the above is correct then the YO is liable if he/she gave permission for the horse to be returned to the original field with yours. If no permission was given & it was just the pig ignorant new livery putting the horse back in the field then they are liable, as they went against YO instructions. YO has a duty of care to you & your horse. Yes, accidents do happen in the field, & as it's natural for horses to vie for their place in the pecking order & that does result in kicks & bites as part of their normal behavior. No one is liable under those circumstances although it's different if a horse is known to have overly agressive tendencis.
In this case it was apparent to all that turning this horse out with your gave rise to problems, so you could well have a claim against whoever made the decision to turn the new horse out with yours, be it the YO, or the livery.
 
Yes it was the best thing to move sadly it seems some of these livery yards are owned or run by people who know little about horses maybe farmers who arnt much good at farming and think there is easy money in having a load of horses which they think will be looked after by there owners while they collect the rents each week..and sadly its not that easy,it needs rules and a system in place to insure everyone horses and people get on or have space...and to work out what fits when introducing new liverys....as a minimum for things to work..
 
I would have told the owner where to go. Understandably she was shocked and upset but there are risks with turning horses out together. These things happen and if you dont want your horse in that situation then put it in another field.
 
YOUR horse got injured, yet YOU got yelled at! Unbelievable.

Sounds a badly organised yard. You're best out of there. Hope you're happy at your new yard.
 
Just what you didn't need. I think sometimes some people sense when you are vunerable and just love to stick the knife in.

Sounds like you're better off out of that yard! What a moron! He was lucky that you didn't feel compelled to ram a broom where the sun don't shine!
 
Why was the other person so adamant about not wanting to move their horse from the field? At the end of the day whoever gets on with who and in which field is the main concern!
