I have a 12 year old DWBxTB who was 17'1 until this year. This year he has increased in height to 17'2 1/2 so an increase of and inch and a half as a 12 year old. Then today I got my 11 year old 16'1 TB in. As I was grooming him I thought, 'my god you look big' so put the stick on him, 16'3. So has grown 2 inches this year. How can this be. And yes I am using the same stick in the same place. Both look bigger and more powerful, especially the TB who now looks more like a warmblood than an ex racer. I have had he first horse since he was 3 and the TB since he was 8. Always been kept in same way, on the same feed and same work regime. I am bemused. has anyone else had anything like this

I've no idea but if anyone has any ideas can they relate them to humans as well? I was 5'5.5" twentyfive years ago when we thought I'd stopped growing. 5'6.5" a couple of years ago and am now apparently 5'7.5" tall.

Do you have a cr*p farrier?!

pmsl, *seeing horses on stilletoes* (sp) :D

My 13 year old seems to have definately *beefed up* over the last two years too, not all muscle cos she's been in and out of work over these 2 years. Haven't measured her recently though, would be interesting, as soon as I've got a level surface!!!! Her lightweight went on as it was raining non stop, and it looked like a mini skirt!!! I know she's fat, but still...... :D

def not a **** farrier, all feet neat and tidy. And a metal measuring stick so def no mice. also I stand at 16'3 and he used to come to my eyes, now he is level with the top of my head.

I'm bucking the trend as I'm growing at my ripe old age. However I have no idea how old you are, is there any chance that you are shrinking?

Ah I suppose that doesn't explain the stick measurement though.

Better nutrients, vitamins, minerals in food? Through the years [like hundreds] people have been getting bigger because of better food etc, so its a possibility?

Or perhaps your horses found a secret stash of 'growth cake' from Alice in Wonderland and have been secretly having midnight feasts behind your back :D
