I have just been up the yard to muck my boys out and go and re-fuel my lorry ready to take my boy to the vets tomorrow and I get back from getting diesel - 10 mins away from yard and this stupid woman has taken her horses out on a hack - riding one and leading one!!! Its DARK outside!!!!! When will people learn.

Sorry rant over!!!

I'm not surprised, I nearly collided with three local riders at the weekend in the pitch black around a bend in a country lane.

If they want to be killed thats fine by why put your animals at risk

Because they just have no common sense! To be honest it doesn’t surprise me, I met some yesterday out about 4.30, ok so they did have fluorescents but still.

I honestly don't know what goes through people's minds some days- get them all back to ponyclub.
Seriously- I wouldn't care if my horse had headlights there is no way on this earth I would do something so bloody dangerous.

"Get them back to ponyclub"

I recently received a complaint about a member of our pony club

Not only were she, her mother, her brother and the pony out at 8pm on All Hallows Eve with no Hi-viz but they were all dressed up in black - including the pony which was dressed in a black rug. Considering that we are only a few miles from the village where the fatal accident happened last year wouldn't you think it might just have sunk in?

Mind you this particular kid gets home from school at about 3pm but doesn't get on the pony till about 4.30 then warms up in the field till it's dark, then goes out for a hack. Wants her flipping bumps felt!

I have got caught once (had to re route off a bridle path to escape from a rampaging bull) had Hi Viz and lights on (as always) but was still bloody scary. Can't imagine why anyone would do that on purpose must be mental.

I rode in the pitch black on February the 28th this year, as the farmer where my horse was kept threatened to kill him and as true as i am typing this, i new he was capable.

I dont agree with it for pleasure.. but sometimes it is necessary.

Me and 3 friends got caught out by the dark the other day. We went out for an hour at 3ish but my friends pony was very naughty so the ride took ages. By the time we got back it quite dark. We all had high vis on by it scared the living daylights out of me!! Not something I want to do again!! So to go out in the dark intentionally is madness in my book!!

Madness!!

I do wonder what such people are thinking.... You couldn't pay me enough money to ride on the roads in the dark

I think some people forget that horse-riding is supposed to be fun! Where is the fun riding in the dark? I would be petrified!
