Why are people so standoffish at Showjumping? Minor rant

On the subject of meeting HHO'ers.... I remember having already met Hattikins, and then later meeting her with her Mum - and saying "hello, Beetle isn't it? I'm Madhossy" !! I don't know who was more embarrassed !!!!!

Imagine if that hadn't been Hattikins' Mum? Off to the asylum you go !!!!

That is my main reason for not saying hello to HHO'ers I meet out and about - sheer nerves that I may be wrong !!!!!

I'm not out BSJA as much at the moment but I used to be out most weekends either riding my horse or helping helping my friend with hers but I always found it fairly friendly. I met one HHOer 'cos she spotted me & have spoken to a few who I've spotted. One wasn't too friendly but that's her loss. I think it helps that like Weezy & a few others have said 'I'll talk to anyone'.

Eventers are kinder in a motherly 'come in and have some tea and a slice of cake dear, you're wasting away' way. Show jumpers are better in a 'come into me horsebox and have it off with me' way. I'd say there's a marked difference in social class at the root of it all

Dressage riders are too busy worrying about how they look to bother with food or sex.

QR: Eventers aren't all friendly though - I spent most of the 2008 season turning up next to the lorry of a reasonably well known young rider with a reasonably well known father. I tried on many occasions to strike up a conversation with the daughter, on the basis that by the sixth or so event she must have been starting to at the very least recognise the lorry. However I never managed to get her to utter a single word to me. Must admit I did not try with her father - he was quite often bawling her out!

I find that now I'm a certian age and a mum, everyone talks to me, I must appear aprochable. Which is great as I'm still quite shy but if someone says hi to me then I'm away.

Not that I've been to a show for ohh so long, first one this weekend in over a year.

I embarrassed myself by asking someone if they were MandyMoo.... and they weren't

But they got chatting away merrily anyway, so they must have pitied me

However, MandyMoo was there and introduced herself later

So result

I am normally terrified of making more of an idiot of myself than normal!! I remember meeting TableDancer and SpottedCat at Moreton Morrell and having a mumbled introduction in the Sjing warm up
