It doesn't affect us but I've been told our riding club dressage team manager missed the entry date by 2 days because her mother died and riding club say the team can compete but if they win they cannot qualify for the championship.
The poor lady does this as a volunteer and she had a really good reason.
Riding club seem to be the strictest governing body with everything like vacs etc.
I am going to check it is not going to effect the open teams entry as well as we are missing Aston BE to do the team and won't bother if they won't let us qualify if .

I agree RC seems to be the only organisation that follows every rule and has absolutely no bend. If its anything like my RC its run by people who cannot ride yet think they can so follow every rule to the max.

I feel so sorry for everyone, they have these rules in all disciplines like vacs. but then they allow people to bring small ponies in to shows who don't compete just for their children to ride around on or sit on and they don't have to be checked for vacs, what's that about. I know at RC champs they are a nightmare with vacs and if its one day out you are spun but the vacs. are made to last longer anyway!
I know there have to be rules but sometimes they are stupid.

It cost me £110 to sort my vacs out this year. Vet asked why and I said RC and they rolled their eyes! My horse was out 4 years ago by 2 days which meant a no no. My other horse was screwed by foot and mouth but cannot be bothered to cough up for him so he just is a non qualifier for everything. So he still goes to same events!

I found this with RCs too but then their is the irony that we had to make a late change to our junior show jumping team because the pony's vacc were out by a couple of days and someone from a diiferent club forgot their passport at the same competition but the year previous and it past the entry check into the stables on a geldings passport when the horse in the box was a mare (are they blind!) I have to say I don't bother with RCs at all now, I found them far to cliquey and the people running them, ran them for themselves. I use to do well in the competitions where you use to go and ride different horses ie London Trophy and Lucy Oldfield until they imposed a 10 stone weight limit on the riders, whats that about, they use Riding School horses most are cobby types that are giving lessons day in day out to people who weigh more than 10 stone, even my bean pole sister who at 5'10 and not an ounce of fat on her can't get down to 10 stone and certainly most men can't.

I agree totally.
Our area horse trials qualifier was due to be held Sunday gone but was cancelled due to the wet ground (landowners desicion not RC's) but Stoneleigh have said that the teams which have qualified must be submitted by 8th July. And they will not budge on the date, because of printing the catologue for championships apparently.

The problem is now finding a suitable venue with an available date before the 8th July. Not an easy task. Oh and our club wont get its entry fee back even if a venue cannot be found.

Know what you mean - last year my horses vaccs were out by 1 day and if i wanted to compete at champs (they didnt notice it at the qualifiers) i had to get them all started again..which i did.. Is such a nightmare..

Josie s. Where are you based, maybe we can suggest somewhere or can you share with another area. They are a nightmare. They should have the HT champ a bit later in the year our qual is on July 8th so we would have a problem if that had to be cancelled

My only comment is that the organization is a huge thing, some members can be over zealous, but don't tar everyone with same brush please.......Everybody knows they're strict about flu and vac jabs but so are BE/BSJA/BD strict about other stuff
i do feel sorry for you............

its the very reason i don't do RC/PC things anymore. Not just the vacc thing but some of the other rules just drive me mad!

(not nec my RC as they are loooovely)

For all the rules and reg, half the area comps are organised chaos! Piss up & brewery springs to mind.

i know what you mean..
i had missed vaccs by 1 day and had to start again so missed out on a team thing however i could do it HC???? its like well im at the same venue so what does a change of class make a difference?

Yes their are some lovely people on some RC commitees and i'm sure their our lovely RCs out there, my mum was invited to be on the RC commitee that I belonged to however she found that all the decisions appeared to be made by a central few before the commitee meetings and the same central few and their friends and relations atteneded RC competitions that had never been discussed at the meetings and came as a complete surprise to most members and half the official commitee that we were even entering those competitions! We finally left this club and joined a really small RC that was really friendly but sadly couldn't enter alot of competitions because they didn't have enough riders with horses of their own and half our team at qualifiers were made up of people riding the riding school ponies (the people that ran the RC had a Riding School luckily), we didn't do fantastic but we had alot of fun which I think is most important.

It's not the committees - the BHS are a bit nuts

Not sure why they are so strict and generally insane - doesn't explain kitemarking, late entries or the spur rules; which IMHO are all raving looney things.

It seems excessively harsh not to accept the entries in this case.
Have you tried an appeal to the RC Chairman?

I can understand the rules about the vacinations, etc., but I know what you mean about people taking ponies and non competiting horses to competitions.

God - anyone would think they are the Olympic team managers judging by that behaviour! Thats disgusting! No wonder they run short on volunteers at times if thats how they treat them!
