Feeling fed up with the human race after seeing distressing photos on fb about live dogs being skinned for fake Ugg boots, other dogs hung on hooks for shark bait and can't even bear to read other stories now that are coming up. Tonight, closer to home as just heard a friend's lovely young and most friendliest cat looks like to have died from what vets suspect is intentional poisoning.

Anyone got a few feel good stories to make me feel that human beings actually have a place on this earth... as right now feel that we as a race don't deserve to share the earth with animals....

Well...there's this little guy.

Due to serious complications during his birth, he had swelling on his brain and ended up blind and deaf for the first three months of his life. The runt of the litter, many people suggested PTS because he "looked weird" and "who wants a blind/deaf dog?" etc. Vet however pointed out that pup knew no different, managed just fine with his sense of smell, and was generally thriving. It was decided that as long as he appeared contented, we would take things on a month by month basis and see how he progressed.

At three and a half months, his hearing established. The vet suggested a course of steroid based treatments but these had to wait until pup was six months old. Meanwhile it was 50/50 as to whether he'd ever get past the stage where when they need to go, they go, toilet wise. That part was difficult to manage, but so worth it - he got there eventually.

He's now just over two years old, can see and hear normally, is fully house trained, and utterly loves life, especially food (half Labrador), carrying things around (he has a small hoard of cuddly toys!) and off lead runs on the beach with his dad :)

Thanks Arizahn

Lovely story and pics. He is lucky to have you as his owner and lovely that with time and your patience, he came right.... Love his fluoro combo jacket!

I too saw both pics. Sadly the Ugg boots one looked real, I'm glad I think Ugg boots are an abomination anyway. The "shark bait" I think is fake, if sharks are attracted to blood and splashing, why use a dog? Also, IF a shark did try and take the dog, it would surely bite the body and rip the hook straight through the lips. The person wearing a green top could equally be wearing vet scrubs and trying to help a dog who'd hooked himself.

no exatly how you feel , really makes you wonder how such people can live with themselves ! would get us down if we thought about it to much ! just hope the poor animals go to a better place , and the so called humans that do these things rot in hell . x

Little bunny who i found in the middle of the road. It had been picked up by a bird and dropped, and was probably too young to be away from mum. I tried to care for it and thought it was making really good progress on anti-bs and milk. It was starting to nibble and explore, but it lost its battle after 10days - the wounds were just too extensive. It was warm, fed and i tried, when a lot would have driven past or pulled its neck.

My pup was extremely lucky and unlucky at the same time. His mum died when he was 3 days old, but his owner hand reared 10 pups day and night for 8 weeks into heathy happy puppies who all went on to loving homes. My lad is my best friend he has come to work with me since he was 10 weeks old, wouldn't be without him now. I am grateful they gave up there lives for 8 weeks and lived and breathed these puppies as I don't know what I would do without him.

When I choose him (hours before his poor mum die :( )

I too often wonder how humans are so cruel. Both to their own species and animals. I struggle to get my head around it. Particularly when it is for our own selfish vanity such as the ugg boots (and it isn't limited to dogs- rabbits and other animals are used too).

No pictures but once when I was a young child I found a cat in our garden. It was clearly an older and very poorly abandoned cat. I told mum and we took it in, fed it, gave it a basket and some water and phoned the vet. If it was going to be ok mum said we could keep it, but only if we called it Lucky. Sadly it had extensive kidney failure amongst other issues, but at least it had a few days of food, kindness and warmth before its end.

My parents last two dogs have clearly come from rough backgrounds. Not necessarily horrendously abused, but clearly there was some cause of their wary nature around humans. One had a happy 18 years with them, and the other has so far had about 10.

Cruelty to animals and children is something I will NEVER comprehend as long as I live. I despair daily about the disgusting, heinous and downright depraved acts that are committed by so called 'human beings'. All the rest of us can do is be as kind as we can to everyone we can and love animals and care for them as they deserve. I am ashamed to be a part of the human race but at least my conscience is clear as my 5 horses, 2dogs and 1 cat, are all loved to the point where I question if it's normal!! Wouldn't have it any other way though!

I started a thread in the club house complaining about all the horrible messages that get posted on facebook. There are lots of tips on that thread about how to get rid of that type of content from your newsfeed. The problem with posting such graphic pictures is that it just deeply upsets genuine animal lovers who can't do a thing about it in any case. If people really must post such upsetting things then there really is no need for the graphic pictures. The same goes for signing petitions. I wish the pictures were not on the signing page because they would get far more signatures if they weren't. I for one often daren't click on them for fear of what I might see.

Aww, so cute - bless you for trying.

I know - it's so bl***y depressing sometimes. I try to think that for every horror story you might hear or read about, there are countless kind and humane deeds being done that we don't hear about....

ps. equi - your bunny rabbit tale was lovely but sad......what a lovely person you are!

This def! I consider myself an animal lover - two rescue dogs, one charity pony bad my own (who should probably be sent to Tesco after ditching me again) and donate to a few charities but I can't cope with the horrific videos, pictures etc used on the internet to highlight causes. I find I can't get then out of my head (ever) so now simply don't look. I don't condone ignoring things but neither can I deal with some of the images. Animal lovers will always help if things are explained simply, so I do sometimes wonder why the sensational pics are needed.

Thanks folks. I feel the same Wagtail. Will have a look and see what I can do at some of the timeline stories coming up.

Loved the duck tale and the poor bunny. My friend once rescued a very similiar bunny unfortunately with a very similar outcome.

It breaks my heart too..close to home in the UK - bait dogs, puppy farms, horses starved and emaciated, tethered without water or food in the cold. But there are lots and lots of people who do report cruelty, give willingly of their time and money...are vigilant and lots of animals are happily re-homed. It would be better if re-homing etc. wasn't necessary and I hate the ghastly pics too but sadly I suspect some people might need shock tactics. Rescue cat asleep on the end of my bed!

I struggle with the images too and still can't get a programme I saw about Brooke's work in Egypt out of my head even though it must have been 25 years ago. I now tend to avoid upsetting images too.

However, I've just come back from dog walking after mucking out and our latest adopted dog makes me smile all the time. We got him from a charity at the end of July with a variety of issues - fused hock, broken cruciate ligament, arthritic hip, aggression, over-keenness on bitches etc. I don't think his former owners were "cruel" on purpose - we were told there were dementia issues and he is a big lad who would take a lot of managing.

Two general anaesthetics, one major op and four months on and he is so lovely and so joyful. He absolutely loves life, loves us, loves his new sister (our old girl) and is a general joy to be with and see. I take comfort from the fact that he is one less statistic.

yep, I posted about this too a while back .. facebook started playing videos without having to click on them and I was deeply deeply upset by some of the graphic content shown.

Another one who will have to find that thread! I also can't get images out of my head and imagine it from the animals point of view and how terrified and hurt it must have been.

I love that people want to get it out there and spread the word...but is there any need for the images?
The one that I find hardest to get out of my head is a horse getting hit by a rally car :'( I didn't want to see that!!!

the little black one is Spider, he got tossed out of a car when I was waiting for a traffic light on a 90km 4 lane road, had to stop trucks to get him (and report to medical dept as he bit me real hard!) at the time he was about 3-4wks old, he's lying next to me now as i'm typing this. The red cat is Minimaus, he got thrown over my catproof fencing in the middle of the night, nearly called 911 cos I thought I was being burglerd. After numerous medical treatments he is now fine, had severely infected ear that has caused balance problems, he will Always carry his head that way, it's not reversable. The grey cat is Fly (fly fly little starling) who came to me as a rescue kitten having had hot oil poured on him, he was burned for 1/3rd of his back (since he's grown it doesn't show as much but he still hasn't got any hairs there.
The grey with the white feet is Possum, took him in at day 1 and was bottle fed.
I also take in aidscats, if they fit into the group (can't afford fights with this condition) currently have only one, big fat red one who came to me as completely feral but is my best mate, had to take care of his neck which was open from ear to ear from being in a wild-trap.

us people are the most scariest monsters on this earth!

Our photocopying lady was wonderful at school, she saved three feral kittens finding Ebony first, Simba was found just before a massive storm and mo in the dry. She brought all to school, I had Simba and ebony aged 5 weeks, mum had abandon them. She found mum ill treated and then got her done, she then did all the family and bulit a shed for them. I had two kittens and third went to a friend. My two are the best house cats and mousers ever! Love them!

I cared for a rescues death row dogs for over a year, the horror stories, an elderly gsd, left tied to a tree in the owners garden, having had his eye put out with a screwdriver, understandably aggressive, he came good and enjoyed his time left, knowing he was loved, a young good looking pup (6 months old) biting because of living with 3 under 5 yr old kids, was un rehomable, he was that traumitised, my 3 yr old cob, literally trembled when his tack came out, the sad thing is, most people see animals as disposable, saddens me to the very core of my soul

I've watched too many videos and seen too many pictures that make my blood boil and have at times made me physically sick.

I do not understand how the the 'people' involved can do these barbaric acts, often with enjoyment.

Over the years myself and my family have taken care over many animals, the most recent by force over a violently abused puppy which is now my brothers dog and loving life.

There are people who care OP, I'm sad this has upset you so much.
