I have to say, I think I give up posting on here. Everytime I ask for advice on things, I get told I'm not good enough and should get a professional to do it...
Way to boost my confidence. Cheers people. Paying someone to do all my horses isn't exactly going to help me progress!
I don't care if this is seen as stirring or childish really because I'm done with this forum.
 
Surely a Professional should be teaching you not the horse? Not much point in a professional doing anything unless you can carry on in a similar vein... :confused:
 
Don't have a tantrum just because you don't like what someone has to say.

When people post in this manner, I often wonder how they survive in the real world...?
 
Some people can be pretty condemning on here and i've seen lots of people shot down in flames :(

It's still worth posting though because the majority want to help and are willing to share their experiences
 
Yeah people are very harsh when they're sat all brave behind their computer but i guess thats the internet for you. Just ignore the stuff you dont like.
 
Don't take is so personally..The thing about this place is quite a few posters think they are the oracle on everything to do with horses.With time you will get to be able to sort out the wheat from the chaff when it come to those who know what they are talking about and those who think they know what they are talking about but actually know feck all but will jump on the band wagon with the rest of the minions..lol
 
Thats life I am afraid. Put anything out for peoples opinions and that is what you will get. Everyone has different opiions and just because you dont agree with them does not mean they are wrong.

yeah this ^^ some people are far too quick to jump in with unhelpful sometimes even rude comments, take on board the comments that are constructive even if they are constructive criticisms and do what you feel is best :)

But when the 'stuff you don't like' is based on experience in exactly this type of thing you are missing a huge opportunity to make things right for this filly.

Just because you don't like the advice given in this instance at least, doesn't mean that it's wrong at all or otherwise, as OP asked, why bother posting if you're not going to take experienced advice from people that have actually experienced the same sort of problems? :confused:
 
You posted asking for advice, and have received some very good advice. Take it and learn from it.

We've all been where you are.

BTW Your sig's massive, you might want to change it if you decide not to flounce or you'll have the button pushers to worry about.
 
I have been riding for 36 years and have had horses for 30 years. There is nothing wrong with getting in help. It is not about you as an owner not being good enough it is about you as an owner being attached to the animal. Its about fresh eyes and about new ideas. You will get a range of views on this forum, read what you like, ignore what you don't. I am sorry you have been upset but you were the one who asked for help with your mare. I think people gave a range of opinions and options. I wish you luck with your animal.
 
OP, you are having issues with 2 separate horses. You're coming to an Internet for advice. It's not sorted with, "you go girl", or "it will get better, you can do it.". A horse running off with you flat out down the road and a filly that keeps dumping it's rider are issues for professionals.

It's kind of like me coming here and asking how I need to ride an international jump course. I couldn't if I was riding Big Star. I know my limits.

You are talking about things that are in my area of expertise. You could have really nice horses to ride if you get them help. It's that simple. Unfortunately that costs money. I know that part really is a bug bear for people. I know because people like to tell me exactly what my costs are and think I should break or fix problems for €50 euros a week. It's not like I need to make a living or anything. Make no mistakes me and people just like me are every bit as important at what we do despite not being international competitors.

But no, I'll just get some tips on the Internet and save my money for more important things.

I think you will find the posters offering the sensible advice would say what they have posted, to you in person.
Its not nastiness, jealousy, or anything close.....its a concern for both the jockey and the horse.
FWIW I would far rather be shot down in flames and then go and get it right, than end up with an animal that will have bigger issues than it currently has.
 
And in case you're wondering I have to pay professionals too. When I go back to competing I need a trainer to help me deal with all that entails. That's not my area of expertise. So I pay to get better. It's that simple. I wish I was super all every aspect of riding there is, but I'm not.

Yes, I believe many of us don't spend enough money or make enough effort to learn how to train or approach problems we are having. Why is it so many will spend hundreds on tack, clothing etc. when "the important things" are seen as a waste of money or an affront on our skills and ability? :confused: We are all learning and never stop learning...
Those "important things" happen to be among THE MOST important things to me.

ps. That experienced fresh pair of eyes is invaluable too.
 
Don't stop using this forum OP, you can get some great advice and information on here so its definitely worth sticking around.

There's nothing wrong with turning to a professional rider sometimes, it doesn't mean people think any less of you. I have sent horses to be professionally schooled quite a few times and I have learnt loads from them, a lot more than I would have done struggling on by myself. If you would prefer to work on the horse by yourself that's fine, you can just reply on a thread and say this is your preference.

If you ask for advice people are going to think of all sorts of things, if you don't like their ideas either say so or ignore them, and move on to the next thread.

I absolutely agree.

I have to say I've always taken immense pleasure from getting professional advice on any problems I've had. It's great to work with someone when you know what you're doing is simply not working - either because you don't have the skills yourself (and need to learn) or to simply have a different viewpoint on a situation from someone far more experienced.
 
OP you sound too sensitive and low in self esteem for this forum. There are plenty of others you may find a little more supportive in poster style and diplomacy. Try those? Good luck.:)
 
Haven't read all your other posts OP, but I have to say that the people answering this one know what they are talking about. I would listen to the advice they are given, but at the end of the day, if you post a problem, are given advice and don't like said advice there is only one solution. Don't post, simples.

I think what you mean to say is you find that patronising. It is not meant to be ...... really:). I really do think the OP could find a different forum that she may find more supportive - this place can be hard sometimes.
 
I so agree with those who say everyone needs professional advice from time to time. Even very experienced horse people don't know everything about every field. There's areas where I do know my stuff, & have been in the role of the person helping. Other areas I am the one in need of help. Recent example is daughters pony. Teaching her, breaking & training pony is something I've not needed even a sounding board for, its well within my capabilities. However in 18 mnths when pony broken to drive, my experience is far too limited to even attempt it before I have professional help lined up.
It's very similar to veterinary advice. Sometimes its possible on here to give an owner tips on dealing with something themself, other times the advice is get a vet.
 
If you were having problems with your health, went on a health forum, would you be angry if people suggested a doctor or physio etc? Would you flounce off and say "I'm done with you lot"? :confused:

You were having problems, you asked for advice. Some of the advice you disagreed with. Fine, don't take that advice then. :) But why get angry with those trying to help?
