ETA: for those looking for a bargain buy rather than a serious competition horse for example

i suppose it depends on what you are buy if you are after a cheap horse then defiantly this country but if you are after a high level competition horse then i don't think its a problem looking abroad. my yo just brought a stunning lustano from portugal. you would find a horse like that in this country!

Naw I think one donkey round the place is enough. Hope those guys all find decent homes and don't end up being passed from pillar to post.

Yes, since when has a Lusitano been Andalucian? Different country methinks.

Seriously, donkeys don't get on well with dogs in general, and this one may not be OK with other dogs. They do also need company, but a pony is fine (despite what the Donkey Sanctuary say). He is pretty cheap for a donkey and donkeys are in great demand, so hopefully he will find a home soon, and hopefully where he will do something, not just be a lawn mower, donkeys like to do something. Now...the others..why are they so cheap?

How many cheap horses a week are imported from your french webistes and how many are bought in the UK?

I would imagine that 99.9999999% come from the UK and 0.0000001% are coming from France.

Instead of asking why buy abroad you should ask why does 1 in 100,000 people buy a horse abroad?

Buying a horse in the UK is not putting the UK herd at risk to a potential EIA outbreak because of a lack of vettings being done though.

The horses coming from France are also almost over £1K, so not really that cheap!

You didn't actually read what I wrote did you? I'm saying that very few, in fact a miniscule amount of people buy horses of these french websites. You hear about it on HHO as the people buying are internet users - that is how they are targeted, thru the internet.

There are 3226 horses for sale on horsemart atm, how many are on your websites?

I think you have misunderstood DD.

We are aiming at changing importation regulations and general welfare of all equines, hence EIRG, Equine Import Reform Group.

We are not trying to close down any websites.

There is so much more to it than just the numbers, Diesel Dog.

It is the welfare of the horses, the deaths that have happened, strangles being imported, the knock on effect that they are having in France (one basic being more damaged horses being kept alive instead of having them put down) , and the dumping in the UK market merry go round when not suitable.

Any proportion of the above is unacceptable.

Don't Irish horses class as from abroad?
I think that your figures are off there, even if they were plucked from nowhere.

I sooooo want to buy the 22yr old she is just adorable and my nieces would pamper her no end. But unfortunately the pocket says empty.
I really hope a loving family buys her and she retires gracefully when she feels its time to just eat grass
