a 3.5 ton lorry in (a) good condition and (b) my price range? Whats the matter with people - so many vehicles I have looked at have been far too overpriced for the year/make/bodywork condition etc. If anyone knows of anything please let me know as I'm getting desperate now!

also SORRY ANOTHER HOW MUCH...

would you pay for a Ifor Williams 505 in blue with head partition and matching tack pack included. Approx 3/4 years old (will need to check paperwork). I'm asking £2400 - is that too much?

Thanks

Deb

Did you read the post earlier on someone getting done for being over the 3.5T weight? 3.5T are more expensive as supposedly everyone can drive them. However IMO most of them once loaded up are over 3.5T and therefore over most people's limit

we bought an IW 505 red at christmas for £2500.

it is in perfect condition as only had been used twice (or so they said and it still has plastic on ramp). With it we got all the locks - locks for all doors (just padlocks) wheel lock and hitch lock and big heavy chain lock thing!

We also got IW tack box. It was a 2004 with all the usual data tags etc. it was only ever used to transport a 11 hh pony. you can tell from the bum mark on the partition. other side is immaculate. it doesn't even smell of horse yet

there are a lot of them about for sale in that price range or at least there were at christmas. IW dealers were selling 2002 reconditioned with 12 month warrenty for £2000 at that time and also had an offer of £2600 ex vat for a brand new 505

Thanks for the honest answer on my trailer question - the problem is I don't live on the mainland so anyone looking for a trailer will have to pay freight to the island of about £100 plus.

Re the lorry - I know most people will go over carrying horses but all I need to travel is my daughters pony so thought that I would be well within the weight limit? (14 hand slight build, approx 400kg) and possibly his friend who is smaller and a lot lighter! Does anyone have any experience of a VW LT 40 or similar ?

The VWL40 are bigger than 3.5t. For a 3.5t you need the VWLT35. Am looking at one for my one horse, as 1.2 payload should be plenty for him and his tack, and me, so sure would be fine with ponios in!

If it helps my local IW dealer is selling the 505 brand new for £2995 incl VAT

I think something funny is happening with trailer prices at the moment - I brought a brand new 510 Classic cheaper than my friend who brought a basic 510 for 4yrs ago.... think the prices have come down alot.

I think you are right pasha, that 2995 is the same offer we saw at christmas. they also do the 510 for about 3300 I think.

Certaining the ones that were second hand where coming out around the same price as the new ones. the one we bought there were looking for 2800 for it but we told them about the IW deal and all agreed on 2500.

Unfortunately due to the change in law regarding what newly passed drivers can either drive or tow these 3.5 ton vehicles are selling at a premium. It's down to supply & demand. I honestly think to try & carry a couple of horses will take you very near or over your load restriction, although it should be ok for ponies.

Regarding the price of trailers coming down. I don't know but possibly with the threat from government regarding vastly increasing the Car Tax on 4X4s the market for horse trailers may well be affected, thus the apparant price fall.

Just a thought
