Why can't older horses act their age?

SillySausage we have a half sister of your boy (her sire is Stormhill Joseph too) and at rising 19 she shows little sign of slowing down!Although, to be fair to her, is generally well behaved just a bit fresh at the moment.
My chap (not related to yours, being a small hairy pony!) is 24 and still dragging me around in hand, bouncing about under saddle and up for a gallop. I'm thrilled that he feels well enough to be a pain in the bum!

I'm of the opinion that a horse can be ridden/walked for hours a day and it will still come nowhere near a short period stretching legs and not having to think. Whether it be at standstill or full pelt in its own space and time.

I'm not having a go and understand circumstances but if a short turn out in big school before others out is possible I'd definitely be asking, think it does a world of good :) if not, even the loose school will be a change of scenery left to his own devices and probably biggerthan a stable.

Do you really! I'm going to PM you.... have not managed to trace any of his siblings on his Dad's side other than Stormhill Mink so would LOVE to see her.

Now wondering if it's your mare I've tried to trace recently...!!
 
Lol.....my 21 year old mare (who has djd in her hocks) thought it would be a good idea to try and race the other two she was out on a hack with.....and responded to my brother telling her she can only trot by broncing up the hill.....the worse part it that the tb ex racer was a star and just stayed at a lazy trot!:o
 
Went for a hack couple of days ago with friend. Got on, waited for her to mount her going to be 25 on Jan 1st tb. She hadn't even got her leg over her back & her old girl was off at a trot, cannons us into a bush in the drive, straight across the road (we are on a very quiet lane) heading for the big hedge, swerves left down the road, steps up to canter the rider still managing to stay put, before she finally makes it into the seat & brings her back.

25 going on 2. This mare still does endurance pleasure rides as well! Did Goldenhorshoe PR last year at gold speed (one of only a handful to make this time).
 
Ha ha! I love all these stories of old enough to know better ponies.We had had knobberpony who is 22/23,18 months before we ever took her to a cross country course.We'd heard that x country was her thing,but couldn't believe our eyes when we saw her go.My 9 year old was riding her and old knobberpony was bucking on the spot with excitement when she saw the course.The other kids trotted around it,but not knobberpony,I didn't see her go through the woods,but could hear my daughter yelping with excitement,and knobberpony came out of the woods at a gallop,right up the hill,over the jumps,I've never seen her like that,even out hunting.I could hear the other parents do a collective gasp as she shot past them,and my mum and I were like this:eek:

Bless her,my daughter loved every hair raising minute and wanted to go around again.I love old ponies,they're the best.:D
