Why chose the breed you have?

I chose mine because i wanted the stereotype...
Arab- sensitive, inteligent, fiesty
welsh- cheeky, fiesty, hardy
Gypsy cob- ploddy, hardy, reliable

NONE of them live upto their stereotypical expectations! Total opposites! But i still love them

Because until recently no matter how hard I tried I always ended up with a bay thoroughbred, just think the type suited me. I now also have a chestnut welsh d X tb lol

I chose my fjord because I fell in love with her nature, I didn't know anything about the breed before I got her.

I didn't choose her, I was given her from work and plan was to sell her to get my dream horse which was the total opposite of what she was. 4 years later that little bay thoroughbred is still with me and I never got my "dream" horse! :D

I have a Cleveland Bay. I had a half bred mare and discovered everything I loved about her was 'typical' CB. So I bought a pure bred. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Last thing I wanted was a baby, a white one, or a connemara, see what I ended up with, now 14 years old and worth his weight in gold!

More recently I set out to look for a smaller chestnut ID gelding and bought this mare......logic there somewhere?

I didn't want a PBA and not a 70% one at that, he's got potential for the job at top level which is what I wanted :p

I've got two Welsh Ds. I didn't set out to buy a D at all either time, I had a small list of requirements and looked at horses that matched and it just so happened that the ones I liked best were the two Ds. Native type was on the list as I wanted something that was hardy and could live on fresh air but I did look at a variety that suited my other criteria. Also I am in Wales, there are a lot of welshies to choose from here.

I didn't choose her, she chose me. She will be ideal though as she will be up to weight yet still be able to perform in any field of equestrian sport I ask her to. She also has movement to die for! Her breed is amongst the rarest in the world and centuries ago were prized by a Royal Family. What is she? A Frederiksborg. A rare Danish breed. There are only between 60 - 70 pure breds left in the whole world and I have one and she is the most affectionate horse I have ever met.

I have Exmoors because they are hardy, intelligent, loyal and full of character. I love the history of the breed and the breed society is one of the friendliest I have ever had the pleasure of being involved in. I have made some truly lifelong friends through these wonderful little ponies and I would be happy if I only ever owned Exmoors from now on! I have done dressage, showing, fun rides, wild pony gatherings, hacking, lessons, jumping and more on Exmooors and love every minute!

Because I'd always wanted an Andalusian (PRE). Everyone else wanted an Arab, but for me, the PRE has it all, good looks, flashy, loyal and clever.

I got mine as an 8mo colt and he's now 3 1/2 and has been ridden for about 8 weeks. Even though I've never ridden anything younger than 6 rising 7 I have so much faith & trust in him and he's amazed me at every step of our journey. He is my life long equine dream! :)

I bought an arab for various reasons…

Now in my 30s, I'm reviving my 12 year old dream, I wanted a pure bred arab then, got Flamey (part-bred) which was good enough really.
Flame was living on borrowed time and I knew she'd leave a very big arab-shaped hole.
I was fed up with the lameness and drama of performance horse issues.
My back and nerves are past jumping, my brain and temperament reject dressage, so I've committed to endurance riding.
I like riding arabs best, they cruise.
i like arab personalities best, I think they're quite different from all other horses, and I seem to get along with them.

I had a fantastic anglo-arab when I was younger, he was bought because he was a really good horse, nothing to do with his breed. Then I had a IDxTB which nearly killed me. Once I was in a position to own a horse again I thought back to the super anglo I used to have and looked for something like him and I found my anglo mare. I now also have two pure arabs.

I bought mine because I'm a sucker for a coloured :o And I wanted something more versatile that my late Clydesdale.
That said, from a temperament point of view, you just can't beat the heavies :)

I had a fab NF oldie on loan when I was 13. I fell in love with the breed and when I was looking for something to give me confidence I ended up buying a NF yearling as a companion. Twenty years later, Benji is still with me, I moved to within 20 miles of his birthplace nearly 16 years ago and gained a few more foresters over the years.

I can't recommend them enough, great ponies that turn their hooves to anything. My son's first loan pony too was a 11.1hh little forest mare.

I currently ride a thoroughbred simply because that's the only horse I got! I don't own a working horse at the mo (retired cob) so I take literally anything I can get on loan.
In the last year or so I have had a 7yr old cob that bucked me through a fence then jumped over the fence and ran at me/tried to stamp me to death, a sour 21yr old showpony who refused to jump - he is now carting two young boys around a gallops, and my current reschooling project a 20yr old tb hunter turning eventer!
I'd love to be able to go shopping for a specific breed but just not possible at the moment.

I have pure bred Natives the highlands are the love of my life beautiful, powerful strong and infinitely versatile
the Dartmoor I was given as a three week old foal on his mum who my friend bought and bless him he is definitely not typical of his breed he is an evil little git and so can never leave here alive
The Connie was a bit of an accident as I loved her mum and when the owner bred her she was desperate for a colt so jokingly I said if its a filly I would have it and lo and behold it was a filly not a breed I would go for again as they are quirky, stubborn and unpredictable so I find them very frustrating others find them interesting because of their foibles
Highlands every day for me and I would love to have another highland foal to raise but no money so no foal and I will be too old before I can afford another

My new boy is a forester. I bought him because of his lovely quiet personality and suitability as a mother/daughter share (though my daughter is only 2). I love him because he adapts, when mini rides him he's like a lamb, but he is very forward with me :)

I've had 3 welshies so far! Never went out with the intention to get a welsh but always end up with them  in a sucker for a pretty ponies with a bit of fire!

One of ours, she has no papers and nothing in her passport, possibly Anglo Arab X with Dales, she's very very pretty though and I too am a sucker for a pretty face, the other is a reg ISH with full TB sire, we didnt set out to buy her although we were looking for a horse but had been looking at ex race horses so she's kinds what we set out to buy!

I originally set out for a new forest due to the fact they are great all rounders but I ended up with a fjord yearling instead! I wouldn't change him for the world and he is certainly everything I wanted in a horse, calm, loyal and genuine but with a bit of character.
