After the horrible weekend I had with my horse I looked on a few websites and have now found what sounds like an almost perfect horse with a few quirks that wouldn't really be an issue for me. Why did I do it :(

Funny...your horse has been on a few websites and found what sounds like an almost perfect rider with a few quirks that wouldn't really be an issue for it....why did it do it:)
Bryndu

Edited to say...Golly...I hope nothing bad happened to your horse and you were just having a pants weekend like mine. :0

Nah I have the same issue! I love cute little ponies & have a bad addiction to world horse welfare website, in all a terrible combination.
Luckily I still live at home & mum says no, otherwise who knows how many I would have collected by now!

Yes I am silly! Just found a little yard for rent that I could just afford so I could keep my other boy too ( I am not allowed to have another big one where I am currently)? But I would need to sell him to be able to buy the other one so it doesn't really work!

Nah - you could keep the shettie in your back garden. My husband keeps asking me to bring our Shetland home to mow the lawn over the weekend :)

Bryndu - I have a 5 year old very green welsh D and I seem to have lost all confidence with him so you can probably imagine the fun we are having!

Spottyfalula - I hope it's a load of rubbish but seems a genuine advert and I did email the lady with a few questions which she responded to happily!

Mad cow- little ponies are so easy to collect! If I had the space I would have thousands.

Ffion - I am so tempted to have a look. I am seeing my friend this week so will see what she has to say. I feel guilty already :(

I know your right. But none of the quirks are ridden related and is 100% what I am looking for ride wise. He hates travelling which is the main issue and I don't want to go anywhere so it wouldn't affect me. If I found the perfect horse with no quirks it would be way out my price range. :(

You wouldn't be throwing him away, just passing him to someone who likes him more. That's how most of us get our equine partners. I'd probably go have a look at the other one...

Don't feel guilty. Sometimes, no matter how much we love them, some horses just aren't a good fit.

Go and have a look at the other horse, and speak to your friend about buying yours. At least then you'll have all the facts and you can make a proper decision.

Ah well in that case, go and have a look at this horse but do be very careful about making sure that you try it in all possible situations.

Horse ownership should be fun. If you are struggling with your boy and not enjoying him there is no shame in finding him a good home and moving on. Don't torture yourself and risk both of you losing your confidence. If it is a temporary glitch you'll get over it but if you have bigger issues it may be better for both of you to go your separate ways.

I think, deep down, from reading your posts, you know that this is not the right horse for you and he would be better with your friend. I don't think your husband is helping, pressurising you to keep him - something I don't quite understand - why would he want his wife on a horse that she daren't ride, she feels so unsafe?

You can look at my previous threads for the details of our issues. I wouldn't want to bore everyone again! Basically I am nervous (but fine riding other horses) and he is young and nappy.

My farrier looked at the advert and said no way should I get the horse I liked. She thinks what I have now is much better.

I have contacted an instructor to come out and help me so will give him till the spring before I decide what to do.

And no if I wrote an honest advert for my boy I would not buy him :( but he is here so I have to try! I think.......

This is going to sound really bizarre but see if you can prep him for selling.

Me and my last mare had huge issues with napping, bucking, spooking, hacking, riding in fields and the occasional rodeo display.

The second I decided right I am going to sell I just got on with things because in order to sell her I had to work on her issues head on. Once I took a more determined tact, the horse sensed my new found determination / confidence and behaved much better for me!

I never did sell her ;)

If you can't stick to window shopping you should stay away from the classifieds until you decide to sell and your horse goes. It would be like having an affair, lol.

Make a decision to commit to or end your relationship with your own horse before moving on to the next one. ;)

Hi again,
Trawled back through some of your posts.....and I do feel for you...
I have a sort of different approach to this problem.....
If you have transport...are you able to take him to a showing yard near you.....someone who rides well in your area and shows M&M cobs/A,B,C,D's that would be willing to take you on.....and who will really understand cobs.
I do not for one minute mean to disrespect any RT's out there....but if you have a RT who KNOWS cobs....then go for that one....
The only support I can offer...is when you find his key....he will offer you his soul.....
Best of luck
Bryndu

If it was just an advert browse then it's one thing. But to have contacted and queried things on the horse.... I think you should seriously look at whether your friend wants yours and have a viewing of this one :)

I still kick myself over one I should have had. Including quirks. Bit of a project.
Was looking with a friend for her and wrote off for a number of reasons. Still wish I'd gone down and collected her that afternoon though. Money, time etc wasn't a problem and would have her in a heartbeat now. May try and look her up again sometime.

Stupid as I've always said you should regret doing something over not and could easily have done it.

You are right Flame I have decided to ignore adverts until I have made a final decision to sell :)

Thanks for taking the time to go through my posts Bryndu. I don't have transport but will get on google to see if I can find anyone local who deals with welshies although the instructor I contacted today sounds fab but it still might be worth a look.

Pandorasjar you may be right but as much as I think my man is not right for me I am not quite ready to give up yet. I know once I have gone through the winter and got some proper help I can let him go knowing I tried my best. Although hopefully he won't have to go anywhere!! :)
