Oh dear. Borrowed a treeless torsion tonight from my friend, to try on my ex racer. Went out for a hack, the saddle is fantastic, so comfy and she seemed to go really well. Plan to buy one though I will need to check wither clearance.
Anyway forgot she is in season and took the "tricky" route back, via a bridleway which passes a couple of colts. She was very forward - as she often is coming home - so decided to walk the last half mile or so on foot. Then, first mistake; deciding to remount in sight of our field (with resident riggy gelding). Next thing, her toyboy colt appeared from behind a hedge just as I was checking the girth. But instead of continuing on foot, oh no, I insisted on getting on. The saddle kept slipping so I tightened the girth not one but two holes...and got back on board though the saddle had still slipped a bit so I went to straighten it with one foot in the stirrup. It must have pinched her or something because next thing she was up with all four feet off the ground and I was on the floor! In typical tb fashion she went from statue still to jack in the box in the blink of an eye, and headed off across the field to scream at her fieldmates - not before giving me a swift kick in the arm for good measure.
Does anyone else do stupid stuff like this or is it just me? To be fair its the first time I've been thrown in 20 years of riding - but then again I should know better! I always prided myself on having a seat like glue but obviously this time she was just too quick. Luckily just have a sore jaw, hip and arm to show for my trouble.
