Why do dogs…

Do you get the cheek puffing as well? Its something Ive only seen in sight hounds, but maybe its just more noticeable on their long snoots!
Mine puffs her cheeks when she's getting ready to do an almighty whinge. Kind of like how toddlers scrunch up their face and go red before they start screaming. I've often wondered if this is a thing/where she learned it.

She's very expressive 😂

Puffing cheeks - stress relief.

Its when I'm not quick enough with breakfast or to let them out of the car. Cooper also does this really odd thing where he screws his tongue up and pokes the tip of it out the side of his mouth. It absolutely has to be stress related as its usually when we are driving and getting close to somewhere he knows is a parking place for a walk, or if I'm looking for parking near a walking place. He gets himself excited and stressed but knows he has to sit still until his lead is on and I say come on, so it seems to be his way of coping with that, because really what he'd like to do is hurl himself out of the car and gallop off. Life is hard when your a busy minded little dog!

Tawny used to go and lie in her basket when I got my boots on for shooting. I think it was stress. Looking back I’m not sure how much she enjoyed her day, although she was incredibly driven and very good at it. She shook all day as well. Mine all shake while waiting for the first drive but she did it all day.
I think it’s just over excitement with the Goose. He’s very keen to go out. Possibly a hangover from being a bit worried about the car, despite never having had an incident, but who knows what goes through their head or what perceptions they have? He’s still wary of vehicles/bikes etc, perfectly fine in the car, tho.

Yes, she’d lie in her basket but when I was ready and called her she’d bounce at the gate. It sounds like I dragged her kicking and screaming 😄

So, reading this post, I’ve paid closer attention last couple of days. Odin and Toby are sneezers, Luna has always been a burper.

Feeding them tonight, they all have their place where they wait until bowls are put down. Bo was puffing his cheeks! They all know where they eat, and never any problems, so why would he be stressed? Could it come from his previous life where I think it was a kind of first come first served kind of thing?

yeah same way I feel when my food is cooking, I have no patience and want it NOW!

I call it a 'snot' as opposed to a full blown sneeze. Usually applied to me in the mornings when the goblin wakes up.

Talking of sneezing! I checked and its true, not quite as simplistic as the meme makes it sound, but they do vote with sneezes

Our two both "sneeze" repeatedly when they first greet the first person downstairs in a morning, along with low wiggly head carriage and waggy tails and circling us. Very different breeds (springer poo and a JRT cross, and our lurcher used to do it too). It seems to be reserved for the first greeting of the day.
