i never really notice a bad smell round horses, or maybe its just because i like it!! but having brought a turnout rug home this morning to dry it out, ew ew ew ew ew ew!!!!!!! i didnt smell when it was attached to my pony, but now its in my conservatory it honks!!!!! do horses really smell that bad, but we jst dont notice it when we're with them!?

any tips for drying out rugs wud be fab too! there's v little space in our tackroom, so i usually bring them home, altho luckily, its not too often. after all that awful rain last night, it was slightly wet on the inside.

totally agree - my rugs are the same - fine at the yard - honk at home?! lol same as my wellies - as soon as i get home i can smell them?!

i try to hang them up outside to air out - or i'm lucky as OH made a tack room/rug room for me in the boiler house so it's toasty warm and dries them... electric fan heater under them does job well too...

mind you - i v rarely take a wet rug off the horse (unless wet through/to inside) as i find the dry best/quickest on her!

Strange...I've noticed I smell fine at the yard....honk like a piss-soaked minger at home/supermarket etc.

p.s. when I lived with my parents, I used to have a gas fire in my bedroom. I used to bring my NZ (you know, the old canvas green type) home every night and dry it on a chair overnight in my bedroom! And I smoked in my bedroom too!

It been a while since I laughed outloud like I just did at something I have read!! How funny! My thoughts are the same!

Must admit, I don't normally notice the smell on me until I'm actually standing next to someone in the chemist or in the queue at Tesco. Then all of a sudden I REAK. Why is that? I'm starting to think it's psychosomatic or something!

I remember leaving my skipping out gloves in the foot-well of my car (not sure why they were there) and did not notice the car heater turning them into a honking stink until I had to give a lift to a colleague from work whereby it became all too apparent!
