i thort they couldnt breathe thru their mouth, only their nose, so why do they yawn?can someone enlighten me?i thort wen we yawn its to get a quick supply of oxygen to the brain to keep us awake or something like that....
Because we bore them with our endless dull circles and those naff 'transitions'.
As my horse says 'Once you've trotted one circle, you've trotted them all'.
They want to get back to their fields after work, to think about the great equine philosophical debates....

Back to the topic tho - the reason they yawn after exercise is because they are relaxing their jaws after having the bit in their mouth. Also some horses yawn before exercise, this is also for the same reason - but it rrelaxes their jaw before the bit goes in.
There is no definitive answer regarding why a horse yawns. He can yawn for a variety of resons. This link may enlkighten you a little......but not much

Are you talking to me about text speak? How dare you? Just because I'm old, there's no reason to pick on me.

no sorry! I nearly put in brackets that I meant the OP and not you actually!
I mean the OP....I just don't "get" text speak when youre on the computer. It's fine on an actual text where you need to save space, but I have to think so hard to write in text speak that it must take twice as long to write a post on here in it....

I accept the explanation...and will now hit Bramble87 for her completely unacceptable behaviour.

Shilasdair - have you been on the sauce?? You're really made some fantastic posts in the last 24 hours
Perhaps they yawn because they see us yawn??? I think mine yawns so I can't get his headcollar over his nose and he can therefore wander off to find some hay....
Rocks yawns without fail EVERY time after hes just had a carrot - only carrots he doesn't do it with feed/apples etc just carrots - without fail he will yawn if you give him carrot! V odd!
Sometimes they yawn when they've had to think too much.
Or they may just be tired.
And horses can breathe through their mouths occassionally (eg. when galloping hard) though generally they just use their nostrils, not sure if they do this when yawning, may just be to stretch their jaw muscles.
