lol, bathed my old boy today too, no sooner was he loose than he was on the floor scrubbing himself into the grass, side to side and on his back like a big ginger tortoise

Try lots of vigorous currying. Exfoliate, get the blood into the muscles and dead hair off. It might make him less itchy. Also, if you use a shampoo without salt (sodium chloride) that is pH balanced for horses, it likely will not strip his natural oils nor leave a film. As a consequence, he'll be less apt to scrub his body on everything. Good luck!

Oh dear.... I bathed Genie yesterday but decided to keep her in... I dare not turn her out after bathing for a show as I know what she'll do!

greengroom - can't help but notice that both of your posts on this forum mention and link to that website... do you work for them?

I have given up letting my coloured mare in the field after a bath, she comes back all brown rather than skewbald

Sometimes I let her roll in the school and run round to dry off and then the bits of woodchip stick to her but at least they brush off clean.......why are horses so much work?
