...who cares about their dogs' behaviour
mad.gif
(i don't mean on here, i mean out and about in general
tongue.gif
) I work hard to train my dogs and get them as obedient as possible. no they are not perfect but they both go to training every week and are pretty good. their recall is great unless there are other dogs about so as far as possible i only let them off where i can see whats around- if there are other dogs i put them on their leads. other people though don't seem to to care! last week one of my dogs was bitten by a Rottie that was off its lead and then thins morning i got accosted by 3 springers who were growling at mine and my puppy was trying to run away but couldn't get away- its very hard controlling two whippets when you are surrounded by three other dogs

the bloke with them was out for a run and couldn't even be bothered to stop his running to sort his dogs out, just called their names once when he ran past- that did nothing....

sorry for the rant, just getting sick of things like this being a regular occurance

You so have my sympathy ... only yesterday I was walking my lot (3 whippets, 1 mini wire dachshund) on leads along the canal tow path (so no alternative route to take unless we fancied a swim) when this jrt arrived out of nowhere to distant shouts of "she only wants to play" ... maybe she did but my dachsie is not so well and doesn't do being mobbed by dogs he doesn't know, and one of the whippets when on lead always feels the need to defend the dachsie ... why does it never occur to people that not all dogs (or people) are happy to be approached by out of control dogs!

Have to ask ... how old are your whippets, names etc? Excuse me if that info's elsewhere ... I'm new here

You're not the only one.

I'm trying to deal with my dog at the moment. He has issues with his recall once he see's another dog (ie, goes completely deaf) so am currently walking him on a lunge line :sigh: while he remembers his manners. Sadly, the little b*gger knows he's anchored and so doesn't venture more than 4 feet away from me. Am fed up of people who still let their dogs run to him and all get tangled up in the line. Part of me wants to start yelling 'MY DOG BITES' (nb, he doesn't!) as theirs come haring towards me but as we're using him for advertising etc on our website I don't want people associating the website with a biting dog if that makes sense lol.

thanks folks, feel a bit better that i'm not alone

whippetsrule i have two...there is Bobby (the one in my sig) who is now much bigger, hes one and then i have another blue and white called jack who is about 5 months old. he's a bit of a horror (he thinks he's a terrier i'm sure

) but i love them to pieces!

I dont let my dog off the lead as where I live were surrounded by busy roads and id dread to think what would happen if he ran out. But I keep him on an extension lead, when were over the park I can let him off but mainly keep him on an extension.

A man who lives up the road from me had 2 dogs, one like mine and another little one (not sure on the breed) and a lab went over to the little dogs and the one like mine growled at the lab so the lab picked the other little dog up shock it in its mouth flung the poor dog backwards and cracked the dogs neck and killed it.

Im not sure what happened to the lab as my mum was talking to the dogs owner but I feel so sorry for him! xx

QR, no you're not alone, this seems to be a hot topic this evening

You may be needed on the other thread, Gypsygirl, apparently dogs killing other dogs on walks is unheard of for some

My boy is very protective of his personal space and I have lost count of the number of times I have had to yell for people to recall, wave my arms, stand in front of him etc to prevent their friendly dogs from getting a bollocking.

It is respect for other people and dogs, IMO!

I totally sympathise, the idiots in my local park (which happens to back onto my back gate) infuriate me.
Tessie isn't a young dog and she's well socialised but she likes her own personal space and there are certain breeds she just hates so she gets walked on the extender lead and doesn't get let off. Most of the dogs around my area are either under-worked collies or springer spaniels and while we avoid collies, a springer always appears when we are halfway around the park.

Tessie's not intolerant, a bloke who entered after us lost control of his puggle (a puppy which had no recall at all and shouldn't have been off the lead), tiny little bouncy thing - really sweet. Tessie ignored it as it bounced around her and then ran off.

Same walk slightly later on, Tessie was minding her own business, this s*dding liver and white springer(a breed she detests) darts up to her from behind and causes her to jump (she's going deaf) so she tells it off and I shout at the owner who was just weakly calling it as if she didn't really want it to come back and thought it was funny.

If that's not enough, every day without fail an out of control collie launches itself at my back gate barking like mad...and then proceeds to do it to every other back gate where there are dogs.

Honestly, some people!
