Hold onto their horses ear whilst waiting to leave the gates? Just watching the racing and have seen a few of them holding on to one of the horses ears...

Am assuming its a calming thing, anybody know what it actually does? Just curious :)

It's to stop the horse hearing all the horrible things the other jockeys are saying about it. TBs are very sensitive and other jockeys say to each others horses that they look like a cob, just to upset them and put them off the race.

You think the jockeys are bad? Should hear the horses - language that would make a sailor blush...

Yeah this is why my horse chucked racing. way too sensitive. The other jocks and the horses were calling her a ginga minga and swearing at her and stuff like that. she wanted to go and live on craggy ireland where father ted and father dougal could sing 'my lovely horse' to her every day. sadly that didn't work out and she came to me. :D

Pmsl. It's actually to put the headphones in for the ipods. The horses listen to drum & bass music while speeding round. Older horses at the back, who are overtaken by the rest have radio 4 or classic fm on. You know if the ipod battery goes, as the horse stops. Some horses also race with a bass box built in, these are usually referred to as weights. Also why modern tbs are much finer than years ago, carrying a gramophone caused no end of problems.
