Go off on one when they don't like what they hear?
I read lots of the "How much" posts and notice that most of them end up with somebody or other having a disagreement!
My father always said to me "If you don't want an honest answer then don't ask the question"
So......... should people just not comment or say what they think the person wants to hear????

I think if you ask the question be prepared for all sorts of answers.
I recently put up a conformation critique post and was basically asked if I wanted an proper answer or fluffy one!!! It was assumed by this poster that I may only want fluffy replies which IMO is not what a critique is..

I do however think there is no need for rudeness and you can easily give an honest answer without being rude...if they then choose to get upset then so be it

I guess it is disappointment when they think they have something which will never attain the price they have in their mind.

The horse market is such a quick moving market that you really do have to keep up with the game. You can't price a horse at 5K because you bought it for that 3 years ago; you also can't up the price by 3K because you've owned it for 3 years and may have won a couple of prizes. The market is what the market is, at that given time; what you have done with the horse can often be irrelevant because the market is greater than anything you can do.

There are the occasional exceptions of course, where buyers will have unlimited funds and are able to go and buy exactly as they choose regardless of the market. There are also sellers who can flip by this also, in that they don't care whether the horse sells right now; often they are aware that the horse is top-end price in current markets, but they will sit it out until THAT buyer comes along or until the market catches back up with them.

I find that the most irritating (and has to be one of the most used) comments on here, Lol! No disrespect to you whatsoever Odb for posting it

.

When I sell my horses, I know how much they are worth in the marketplace. I price them at their worth and I know that someone WILL come along and buy them at that price because it is a fair and just market value. This phrase works for horses at both ends of the spectrum so in essence is one of those senseless phrases which is generally used by people who cannot afford the horse in question or who have no idea how to work out horse values.

Obviously there are those sellers who just don't have a clue about how little/much their horse may be worth and these people may struggle to sell their horses because they often have the wrong people looking at their adverts.

I have often been on the other end of this scale; been to see and ended up buying horses for a sight less than their market value - so I am paying waaaay less than I am willing to pay for it, and it is worth much more than I do end up paying.

I am not sure. I think some people expect to be told their horse will fetch a bigger price than is realistic. They expect people to be wowed by the horse and for them to flatter them.

Other people are just disappointed when they realise that the sale of their pony will not even cover next week's food bill. Understandable really.

I think I am the poster you are bitching about Honeypots. That's not quite what happened, though, is it?

ETA: I'd have a bit more respect for you, if you named me when you are bitching about me

That's the first time I've ever been called 'touchy' - I am not usually known for my sensitivity.

In the same way, I would imagine, that you will not be known for your bitching subtlety, but then again, I am sure you don't expect to be called on it.
I am tired of it.

Disappointment, not much else I can add really.

I've just spoken to OH about it and he said that apparently I did exactly the same thing when selling my lorry.

I asked him how much he thought I'd get for it, he told me and apparently I ripped his head off

But, just to show that women are NEVER wrong, just not quite right sometimes, I did get the price I wanted which was 2k higher than his

Well actually Shilsadair, I see you as very touchy.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else thought I was being bitchy on that thread....

Sorry but I also can't see any bitchiness. Is it the time of the month or hormones.

Hmmm no, I didn't think you were being bitchy on there at all, but I think shils thought you were bitching about her on here rather than there.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think Shils was talking about me being bitchy in general tbh

I referred to that thread because that was what seemed to spark her 'problem' with me..

Sorry OP for highjacking your thread...wil leave it there

I guess bitches always need people to bitch to.

I am just very, very glad I don't know you in real life.
I like honest, up-front people, and have no time or respect for those who whisper behind backs.

If you are implying that I bitch using the PM or any other system you are very, very wrong. I very rarely use PM's, don't do Facebook/MSN or anything like it. I know noone in RL except one person I bought a horse from, one I loaned one out to and one that shares my field.

I'm afraid Shils.. you are way off the mark on this one...sorry

Implying nothing regarding PMs/MSN etc.
Your posts on HHO are enough evidence for me, and it is your posts that make me glad I don't know anyone like you.

I guess it were the 'behind backs' comment that made me assume you were on about PM's etc.

Oh well...your mind is obviously made up
