Some idiot has just parked clean across my driveway!!! Its not like its not blatantly obvious there is a car in there and driveway gates!!! They are nowhere to be seen and Im giving it 10 mins and Im going out there to start beeping my horn and someone is getting a mouthful

I'm sure its against the law to block someone in on their driveway - anyone confirm this? I can understand why your annoyed! It gets me when people visit neighbours and park outside my house instead of the one they are visiting (and there is room to park)!

How rude and ignorant. I would leave a snotty note under his wipers saying you have taken his reg no and reported him to the police (even if you haven't). :D

We get this all the time at my house!! It drives me MAD!! We have 3 cars on the drive and my parents paid for a double drop kurb!! My dad is disabled, therefore needs access to the drive all the time!!
Its mostly next door, and their friends. They are always pulling up outside!!
I would go out and sit there honking my horn.

Apparently by law, if there is no car on the drive, then you can park across it. If there is a car there, you can't. If there is a drop kurb.... DONT PARK ACROSS IT... someone may need to get out (on in) in an emergency!!

If they've blocked your drive the police can, and will tow them away... if they park in your drive the police are powerless (I kid you not, and it's criminal damage if you try to remove it yourself!!)

agree with inkiboo, ring the police and say you need to be somewhere, if they cant find the person then it will be towed away. they will try and get the persons details and address first but if they cant track them down then it will be towed.

I believe it is legal to park across a drive if there is not a car parked on the drive. If however there is a car parked in the drive and someone parks across it then the Police can tow them away.

The evil side of me says just pull out and hit the car and just say "oh, didn't see it or expect to have my DRIVE blocked!" Imagine it would work better reversing out which might not be an option! Sounds like you might need to get hold of a vuvuzela to make enough noise to draw attention to the owner. (That folks will be my one and only world cup reference!)

how annoying. i would be sat there now honking my horn and on the phone to the police...it could be an emergency FFS!

I'm sure the police can't actually do anything if the car has a valid tax disc. This used to happen to me at my old house all the time. Drove me mad me and the OH starting blocking the cars in that parked there, soon put alot of people off.

Thanks guys for making me laugh at some of your responses, I was absolutely livid. He has returned and moved the car but he was parked across it for several hours. I have two kids who are staying over with friends this evening and my main concern is that I get a phone call, its a child emergency and I cant get to them because my car is blocked in. I gave him a right earful though (politely of course) :D and he was most apologetic, saying he hadnt noticed he was parked in front of my driveway - I thought my car would have been a hint but maybe he thought it was a rather large garden ornament.

I did phone the police and ask for them to confirm where I stood if it was still there later on - they have confirmed that if the car is parked on the same side of the road as my driveway entrance, and its more than a third over the driveway, they consider this an obstruction and will attend to assist - this can include ticketing/towing dependant on what needs done and if the owner can be located and made to move the car.

Dont think he will do it again in a hurry though :D
