I have a lovely quiet 5yr old for sale. She behaves fantastically all the time even took her on a hunt fun ride last week and she was one of quietest horses there. She jumps small courses, schooling is good but a bit basic due to age and she really tries hard to please. Is excellent in traffic, box, catch, shoe etc. She is the nearest to perfect horse I have ever owned and I have to sell her. Now you would think that people would be very interesting in at least coming to see her and they are until they find out that she is a chestnut tb mare. As soon as I mention the words chestnut tb mare people immediately don't want to hear anything else about her (Just people I've been talking to in passing as no one has phoned from advert). I'm asking £2750 ono as she has such a lovely temperament and is so quiet and well behaved. I regularly see warmbloods etc who aren't as nice as her fetching almost double that. Why do people get so put off by stereotypes instead of judging the horse on its own merits? Or am I really just asking that much too much for her?

No I believe that chestnut mares don't get half as much interest as other horses. A friend has just sold 2 chestnuts and it took her a while to get any interst as chestnut mare with TB in just puts people off. How long have you been advertising for, hang in there it may just take a while.

Only been advertising for about 1 month but thought i might at least get 1 or 2 phone calls. I am going to try putting her on horsemart next week as only advertised her locally and on a couple of free websites.

The typical stereotypical reputation preceeds here, I fear and until people's attitude's are changed, and I fear this may be a slow process, you will always encounter negative attitudes, partly due to many people not being the least bit interested in broadening their mindset and not finding things out for themselves, listening to hearsay.

My experience was not with my horse but with my dog, a beautiful German Shepherd entire male who was the sweetest, kindest, most loving dog you could meet but who would strike fear into anyone who came within 50 feet of him, unless of course they understood that not all GS's were maneating, ferocious beasts. Sadly, I lost him too early, at 8 to cancer in 2007.

So education I guess would help but in a way you will know that the person who does express keen interest and who is truly knoweledgeable is perhaps an ideal prospective owner.

I have a chestnut TB who has his issues but is safe and easy and who is always a pleasure to ride. So much so I was thinking of selling bay WBx and buying another TB as I tend to find them a lot less stroppy, so it wouldn't put me off. Doesn't sound out of the way price wise if she has some competition potential as well as being a nice girl.

well i have a tbxarab liver chestnut mare

and she fits the stereotype

but your pony doesnt sound like she fits the stereotype

someone will turn up

A month isn't long don't get to worried yet but I would say horsemart is a good way to go.

I love chestnut mares

Even if they fit the stereotype :P
Though if she's as good as you say, I'd have her off you any day, except I don't think I have that cash to spare, and Dante might not be too impressed!

Someone will get over their chestnut mare phobia soon enough

Not everyone out there is quite so superstitious... I hope...

I love chestnut mares! (the galloping chestnut in my siggie was the love of my life). I always look out for them in adverts and yawn at the bays. (apologies to my lovely bay mare and all other outraged bay horse owners!

)

I am sure you will find a nice home for her she sounds lovely. Perhaps you could post a link to your advert so we can see if there is anything we can spot wrong with it?

she sounds lovely and I am one of those mad people that browse ads FOR chestnut tb mares! I wish I had the money, just retired mine, I would have her in a flash! Stick at it, nothings selling fast at the mo, someone will snap her up.
