Why do people have to be so horrible?! warning: this may be a bit of a rant

Jealousy!

Dont worry, i got on perfectly well with the girls from college untill i got my new horse, no im fat, ugly, my horse is a cart horse, should go for meat and i cant ride.

i feel your pain. I find every rossette takes an edge of the pain, hurt, and annoyance - and adds to the ego that YOU - the successful one- deserve to have!
 
It sounds like you have done a good job and got a great partnership going, WELL DONE and KEEP IT UP!

People can be so jealous and seem to enjoy being blunt almost to the point of being hateful (you can take the moral high ground here as they definitely have no manners) they strike out when they feel threatened by someone elses skill/embarrassed by their failings especially when they feel that their horse or child and pony combo should be achieving more than you(especially if they have paid a pretty penny for their equine friend). Basically very bitter unhappy people.

Just keep doing what your doing, Its fantastic you have a bond of trust with your charge. Just remember that if you exceed expectations then you are successful, so in a way the fact that these insecure numpteys are 'attacking' you means they know they could not have achieved half as much as you. Basically they are complimenting you (even if they don't realise it) BUT YOU DO...Well Done again!!
 
Can I just say a massive thanks to you all for being so kind and supportive :) I've calmed myself down, had a think about it and am just going to ignore them. They're all so mean to me anyway, I don't care anymore if they think I'm up myself and egotistical if I don't listen to them bang on about how they just got their first 60% prelim in three years (true story, she's riding a very nice dressage horse and then told me I was being cocky doing Ele's :() or hold my head up high and walk on past...I'm so bored of it now and so fed up of feeling upset and having to always watch what I say. It's taken everyone here pointing out the obvious for me to really realise it, so thanks :)

p.s. finger's crossed I'll be moving within the next month/6 weeks :o
 
Well it sounds to me like you've done a fantastic job with your horse. There is only one way to describe it - jealousy. I have two horses who I can't currently compete due to injuries, but I always, always ask or text people who have been out competing how they have got on. I know it's nice when I have competed in the past and done well to come back and someone ask how I got on. It's not being big-headed, it's just being proud of what you've achieved and you should be allowed that. Don't tell them where or when you're competing, who you're having a lesson with - let them come to you and ask you.
Well done for getting so far with your pony - you're doing a great job!
 
Of course you can novice on your pony...I had a 14.2 bog monster who should have spent his life pulling carts who thought nothing of flying round novice all BE season and then showing all the BD lot how to do it all winter season.
Go out there and stick two hooves up to them x
 
i know a lass who has a cobby type sounds a lot like yours and she competes at 1* they are not to be sniffed at give it a few years sounds like you'll keep climbing up and they will probably still be getting 60's in prelim
 
Yep the horse world can be v snobby and nothing use to give me more pleasure than to ride my mud monster out . My parents could never afford lessons and we learnt to ride by sitting, working every spare hour at the stables for FREE! We would have brushed horses all day just to be near them! We entered WHSMITH Win a pony competition every year only never to win! Our love of horses was just in us.

Now I am fortunate position to own etc and because of how I was bought up realise that I am lucky.

I remember my son learning to jump and a snooty spoilt young lady joining in on the lesson on her own pony with her pushy mother watching. The young lady tut tutting all the way round rolling her eyes. Her mother had the brand new 4x4, trailer the lot. My son was so beneath them!! (Even he had a laugh about them)

The instructor was brilliant the yard owner and made a few correctional comments to the young lady but I always giggled as the stupid pair were obviously paying££££ to use the yard owners facilities and I suppose I knew who had the last laugh. The yard owners bank account.

Just ignore them, if you are both enjoying doing what you do and are happy just be happy. You sound like you value and appreciate what you have more than some folks.

There are some really friendly yards around and even where I am having lessons I have already spotted the snooty girl sour puss. But everyone else around her is FAB! I feel sorry for them. Find a friendlier yard....they do exist. Dont sink low and I bet there are others who would love to have the support just like you. Good luck doing the right thing!
 
Well done! We have a Clydie cross competing at Grand Prix dressage here in New Zealand and doing very well!! It sounds like you are coping very well - unfortunately it's part of life dealing with bad mannered, egotistical numpties. (I love that word - learned it on this forum!!) It's amazing what a big smile and "thank you for your concern - I will give it some thought" then walk away does!!! They are almost always left gobsmacked!!! And when you stand up for yourself they will start to give you some respect. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Alyth
 
Good on you, they are justjlealous. My son rides a very chunky, hairy cob & out competing there is always some one who is very snooty about him before they see him jump. The thing you have to remember is a lot of the people watching at the comps will be rooting for you as they will see you as the underdog.
 
Stinks of jealousy to me. It must be very frustrating but try to ignore them and enjoy your pony.

It did used to be that eventers were predominantly TB but since getting shot of the roads and tracks and steeplechase a lot of other breeds have come through the ranks.

Can you change yard to a friendlier one?
 
Definitely jealousy, my YO is getting grief from people she has never even met after her horse had a horrific accident back in Feb (I think I posted about it). I get it sometimes as well, people ask what I have so I tell them a TB and they get all interested, then when I mention my 14hh saintly little carthorse cob they very quickly switch off and leave!

ETA: When people tell you cobs can't BE perhaps drop Pheobe Buckley's cob Charlie who is aiming for ** into the converstaion ;)
 
My friends cob won scope a few years ago. Beat the hell out of the finer types, so fast and careful. :D
Also she was very well schooled by her rider who spent time training her but also having fun hacking.

I have a Cob too and I know just what you mean, the looks of pity when you arrive and the green looks when you beat them!!!

Your misake was not ramming your rosettes up their snottie noses!!
 
My RI has a very fast scopey cob who sounds likeyours ... It's not about breed it's about ability clearly they don't like it cos your horse has that!!
 
OP at 17 you sound far more mature than the lot of them put together, and an infinitely nicer person to boot. That will also be part of how much you've got out of your horse!

Of course it's nasty, spiteful jealousy. I was everyone's best mate when I couldn't ride one side of my horse. Then suddenly the butt of jibes, "talking-tos" and pretty vicious false rumours when we began to do well.

Anyone who trots out the "breed x can't do discipline y" cr@p is a dopey victim of breed marketing and just putting their ignorance out there for all to see.

Do not let them get you down, but I have a feeling that anyone who's lost their confidence then forced themselves to get it back on the same horse would never let such bobbins remotely affect them anyway :)

Well done on your achievments - they sound horribly jealous so their opinions just don't matter.

You could point out to them that Stroller was a pony, and went to the Olympics, Charisma wasn't big either. That some of the pretty, pretty ponies have heart failure at the sight of a pole on the ground.

You love your pony and know his strengths and weaknesses and I'm sure you would not try to jump him beyond his ability.

Either leave this yard or do what really pees off snotty people, congratulate them enthusiasticaly when they do well and be sweet and nice to them - really knocks people like that.
