Why do people need to be so picky?

I'm dyslexic, I go through my posts three or four times as a know I'm not very good with spelling and really feel miffed when people rant about bad spelling......my brain doesn't see it that way:/

Like you I am Dyslexic I often sit here and ponder the spelling in the end I type it as I hear it. I get miffed also when some grammar police come here and deliberately correct someones typing/spelling like its there job.:(

Still there are people even in 21st century that have no clue what its like to have a learning disability. They must have a sad life if they cannot pass a thread without making an obvious snide remark on someone who they don't know or don't know their situation.

I come here to relax.

I do enough English work for my essays and assignments. On here it's nice to not be so worried about being perfect.

I don't tend to worry about the correct there and their etc or abbreviating words.

Life's to short to worry about silly little things, as long as I can get the jist I don't really care.

One thing I do hate is all the 'AIBU' rubbish, puts me off reading a thread as I don't actually have a clue what they all mean. I don't care about spelling but at least write the whole sentence..

Ive not read the origional thread, and I agree that its not very nice to be jumping on someone for a daft spelling error.

However...

Bought and Brought does my head in! It for some reason really grinds on me! :p

The reason for that is not because it is a daft typo ( that we all make, myself quite a lot!), but they are genuinely saying "brought" in real life instead of bought. Replacing the word entirely. If they are never corrected, then they will continue to make this mistake and be none the wiser!

I so often think to myself do they say " I need to go bry some milk today". This forum is particularly bad for brought and bought. Regardless though, it is not nice to be mean to anyone, a little pm to the op would have been suffice if she had used the wrong word a few times if it mattered that much to someone.

Well Benson, I think it was me that you had me in mind when you started this thread, perhaps I WAS picky but the word used ie, brought instead of bought is used often and I do not think the use of the word is down to bad spelling. I am extremely sorry to have caused offense to the OP, I think she moved on very quickly from my atrocious pulling up on the incorrect wording and gathered important advice from members of this forum. In the past Benson I have offered you advice, re. the showing of your lovely sec B gelding, also support when you had your dreadful accident. Now you are off my christmas card list for posting a thoroughly PICKY thread today. I was wrong to have posted in the OPs thread, but you are also wrong to gloat and bring this up several days later.

In the spirit of xmas etc, here is an imaginary group hug for everyone upset by this, that, or any other thread.

(((((((((((((((:D)))))))))))))))

Merry blimming xmas!

Okay, okay - I apologise. I hope the OP is not offended, and it does not stop them from posting again. I spent the last 8 years correcting course work for employees doing SVQ's, it is ingrained habit. It was meant to be helpful, not hurtful.

It is offence not offense :p

I just dont get it. What is the point? Someone is on here asking a genuine question about what she should do, and what do you think is the most important thing on her post. Yep. That she has written the wrong word!! Brought, and not bought. Can we not just give her advice and not pretend to be English teachers? We all knew what she meant, so does it really matter?
I might be wrong, but she sounds a young girl, do we have to knock her confidence in picking up her punctuation and spelling, and risk her not asking questions on here again? really?

I agree with you. It always makes me feel uncomfortable when spelling errors are highlighted and remarked upon, often in a condescending manner.
It is not necessary and always reminds me of the arrogance shown by Gregg Wallace when he was tweeted by a chap who was raising a serious amount of money for charity and simply asked him for a retweet. GW replied by saying 'It's Gregg not Greg, moron' - or along those lines!
Lazy usage and text style I agree is annoying but what is often a wrong vowell or in this case a r - it can be very hurtful for something so petty.

Ummm....a few replies to that then! I didnt have anyone in mind when I posted this thread, I just read the thread, but didnt really take much notice of who was saying what.
This thread was not started today, it was started about half an hour after people had started commenting about punctuation on the other thread! And can you please point out where i am gloating?
And yes, you have offered advice about my showing, and also gave me support though my accident, I dont see what difference that makes, is it because of your support to me, I am not allowed to make comments that might be to do with you? Jeez, sorry! but hey ho, I shant be looking out for your christmas card then!!

No.

Justabob if you're going to criticise others then you should accept criticism back. Benson is not the bad guy here so quit the attitude and move on eh!! If you don't want a hard time then don't belittle others x

I am going to build a small army of robot pandas, that will spread out worldwide and hug everyone. There are not enough tiny robot pandas, in my opinion.

I can find spelling annoying as well, but it is easy to make a typo on the posts and it is easy to make a mistake in spelling when you are in a hurry trying to get down what you want to say - I do think that people can be too quick to criticise or judge and that any forum should allow people to express themselves in their own way (because we all walk different paths and have different backgrounds, education ) without criticising the person themselves or the way they deliver the message.

The focus should be on the message itself - and again no need to attack any one - you can express a differing opinion without getting personal.
