Why do people not want to own Cobs?

this is why I have a cob

Complete and utter novicey muppet me. I need my cob to save me when I do this :o

That picture says to me that, subliminally, you want a proper horse. He is jumping at cob speed, you on the other hand, are jumping at TB speed - it can only end in tears!

"proper horse"... Definition: "something I would fall off the back of" :D

Sorry Auslander I like ponies I can get back on when I faceplant without a ladder  :D

I would quite like a pony - but I feel that it would be unfair to any pony to inflict my vast bottom upon its fun sized spine...s'not fair!

I set out to buy either a nice traditional cob or a highland...
I came home with an Arab who thinks she is a hippo...
I have no idea what happened in between:confused:

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine. He went out to buy an oven ready chicken, and came back with a Ferrari...

There have been references made to Ferraris regarding her speed;)
I do really like cobs too though. If I could afford another horse, it would be a chunky mud coloured cob with loads of feather and big lop ears:D

Now that is epic :D

It's not fair no. I'm cruel and heartless and stick my lard arse on mine anyway though :D

Because they can be just as crazy as a TB! My cob mare is sharp, fast, a poor doer, has had more injuries then most accident prone TBs, competed at 1m10 sj and could always make the time XC. Oh and was also hunted by a previous burghley winner who said just 'hold on and kick!' lol. What makes her better is she will always try for you, is not precious about mud and comes back from injuries that would have crippled most other horses! P.s she is also a proper cob not a 'slightly chunky horse I will call a cob'.

He wasn't awfully popular with his wife. Not only had he bought another car, but there was nothing for Sunday lunch. I believe roast testicles were suggested

I'll bet! legend though :D

I think mine is probably bigger!!

Haha taken out of context that could be quite an alarming statement :D

COBS - I don't know when to stop

Well he will be when he's all grown up!

I am not sure why people want to own cobs either we have always had all sorts my dad has pointers we have had natives, warmbloods, arabs, etc.

Then we have a cob good doer check fat check traffic proof check greedy check......Raving maniac when you take him anywhere :eek:worse than the racehorses check.

Spooky flighty sweaty highly strung and I cannot bear to say it but is really sensitive CHECK.

We are still all trying to work out what is making him like this he is not a hairy but for gods sake I mean how do you cut down the feed when the feed is nothing, including very little hay all winter as he prefers mooching eating dry wood and weeds in the field.

We could wire his jaws togethor but he is getting so little its not really worth it he is very endearing as he is such a horse has endless stamina is a great nanny in traffic of any kind but thinks he is a racehorse when out at places.

The only thing I will say is when I am riding one of my dads tb pointers and they are hyper people are usually considerate and understanding, when I am on the tank I mean cob and he is being a nutter if they do not know me they look at me like I am a novice who has been feeding him a bucket of oats for a month daily.
So if you can tell me why you would want to own him I would love to know.

Never had one and to tell the truth I don't think I've ever ridden one either, if I have I don't remember it.

I wouldn't ever choose to have one, they are too wide for me to be comfortable on, I don't do feathers either.

My chosen riding horsewould be the polar opposite to a cob.

I love my sprogs little 13.3hh Irish cob!!

The fact that he can zip round a 1.10m course, pull off a nice dressage test, be safe as houses around any xc course & come upto & pop a 1.50m puissance wall without battering an eyelid & wipe the floor with the horses makes him even more loveable :D

& the fact that he never gets ill or an injury too :)

Cobs are hard work if you want to be fussy with them i.e clipped, clean.

How ever personally i prefer the aweful ride, or as i like to call it armchair ride, and they are versitile, Sterdy and trust worthy, generally have old heads on young shoulders, yeah they have their days they are grumpy but ive never met a dangerous grumpy cob, only ever warm blooded horses! how ever as much as i love the ride of a warmblood they are far to quick for my personal liking, and although every cob ive owned/riden has been touch button they are quick enough for me!

i love a dope on a rope, and a slow plod 6am in the morning. Im still asleep to even contiplate having to keep a nutcase under control!

and not even that a nice drive down country lanes with a nice looking stocky cob...well cant beat it! better than skinny and looking like it will snap if i sat on it :P

I think cobs are perfect for 'not proper' people. You know the ones I mean. "we do X but not proper X "
By that I mean cobs can jump but not proper showjumping.
Cobs can do dressage but not proper dressage
Cobs can event but not proper eventing
Cobs can gallop but not proper galloping. Think about as fast as a TB collected canter.
A lot look like cows but not proper cows
You cant feed a cob proper hard feed
You dont get proper vets bills

However, they are proper hairy.

Think I will gallop away on my TB now (well ok collected canter should keep me safe) before the proper cob owners start hounding me. :p

But my cob beat most horses at 'proper' show jumping? She also competed at BE so 'proper' eventing and can keep up with pretty much any horse! She is also not wide her saddle is a narrow/medium! She can be hairy though that is true and is not likely to have a crazed bucking fit. Maybe because she's not a coloured :p x

I've done nut job polo pony......
I've now got a boring cob.....

I can tell you which I'd get again :p
I can tell you which got me put in hospital :p
I can tell you which has a cheaper up keep :p
I can tell you which is more versatile :p

My cob does western, english, driving and eating...... and more eating.....

For years I had an arab, several TBs and then a WB - all great fun. As I got older, I wanted fun, fast but safe, hence moving to the gypsy cob,

My current cob Stinky does everything - jumps 3'9 and more to go, super gallop, can prance and play about, but then give a novice a safe lesson and also be led off the lead rein. Show high level - RIHS last year and most importantly found my cancer.

We also have Clydesdales, very similar and not plods but so safe.

This is two years ago, I was two weeks out of chemo, very weak and our first proper working cob course - I made it to fence 9 before slipping off due to exhaustion but he looked after me the whole way round. I had no legs to kick on and hung onto the mane - he was 6. Yes I was mad to do it but I had promised I would get to the finals as I was told I had cancer 2 days after qualifying. I trusted him to look after me but no way would I have done it on the earlier horses I have had.

The clydes also love their jumping

I can understand some people not wanting them, they are master all rounders but not specialist enough for high level jumping, dressage or racing. Some people hate the hair, and some can't get past the prejudice that all cobs are fat and lazy - our two certainly are not.

Well I think competing at national level BS is proper SJ :D & he's coloured!!!
Now now my dear, we all know that very very occasionally one will find a proper sportshorse that happens to look a bit like a cob but we of the anti-cob brigade are not fooled.
Just like you will occasionally find a TB that is quiet or a warmblood that doesn't have attitude, an arab that is sane, or a native that isn't pig ignorant.
Theses exceptions are freaks of nature, nothing more and should be discounted when dissing a specific breed/type.

Hehe Paddymonty - he is a bit if a freak! If I can pass him as a sportshorse I certainly will as I'm sure it will make him easier to sell as everyone knows cobs can't jump :D

You look proper poorly in that first pic and I'm sure you felt it too but I would have trusted him to look after you as well - I know they say don't judge a book by the cover but in his case, I'll make an exception!
