Why do people want to own a cob, why do people want to stir up trouble? Because its a forum and its pretty dead atm. Its a bit of a laugh and I know people have been offended but please dont be. Cobs have been stereotyped as plod-a-long bog monsters-every one knows that! I dont see them when I watch HOYS :D Everyone has their own opinions. I am not on any side, I love to ride wb types but I absolutely love the character of a cob! Lets not let this forum turn into a poncy one where everyone has to be extra careful what they say and not express themselves, I thought thats what forums are all about?
Please everyone make up, cheer up and chin up :D :) :)

*Runs away* ;)

Perfectly put! Whats the point of an open public forum if people cant say their piece.

As the proud owner of a cob I found the offending thread hilarious! I could go on forever about her as she is just perfect, versatile, clever, talented, easy to do, etc, etc, but each to his own, and thank you all for the entertainment!

I bet you all thought I was going to be another 'ranter'(if thats a word) when you read the title..muahahaa :p
Glad people share the same opinion as me on this topic, have a bru on me :D :D

i found the thread very insulting and whilst i am big on freedom of speech and each to their own, everyone has their own opinions etc i found some of the 'jokes' upsetting.

I mean how as a horse owner can anyone 'joke' about sending a horse for meat, i just cant understand that. many of the 'jokes' were insulting.

I just found it sad that there are a lot of attention seekers on here that feel the need to start such threads.

I agree :)

And it points fun and shames people who actually holds those views, as well as people too dim to realise the tongue-in-cheek point of the post.

Like Brasseye - it's not poking fun at the subject matter, more the type of person who spouts that type of rubbish.

Tbh, people say those things to wind up people. If you dont want to be offended I suggest that you dont read them type of posts because we all know that it ends up with loads of pages of 'arguments'. It livens things up around here, otherwise we'd just be advice and q's, any forum does that :)

People who own cows do it all the time though.......:eek::D

I call my cob sausage...... he doesn't take it personally.

Meeny we all see things differently, I can see others POV though I love my little cobby dearly. They were initially bred for labour and on the continent for meat, if some still wish to hold that view that is fine by me, there are far far worse views to have in this world.

It is apparent that not everyone has the same sense of humour, same as RL, would be boring if we were all the same and keeps more comedians in business that way.

anyway I only came in for the hot choccy!

I regularly joke about sending my horse for meat - and if he carries on behaving like he did last night I might just think about it seriously!

I saw a transport man that I had used once with Monty on Sunday at a sponsored ride. I told him Monty had been PTS last month.

He said 'ooooooh, what a shame' in a very sarcastic voice. This is because Monty took 3 hours to load, wrecked his ramp, hurt his shoulder and kicked the towbar off his transit van ( :D )!

Now, my immediate reaction was to feel pretty upset, it's still all very raw. But then I thought - he didn't mean to upset me......he meant to make me laugh! Perhaps it wasn't appropriate (!!!!!) but sometimes you have to just swallow your feelings and move on. I even gave him my most convincing fake laugh!

Totally agree, and with the original post. OK, some people might have been mildly offended, but if you can't cope with differing opinions to your own, thats more of a problem than having the opinions in the first place.

We do it all the time! If one of the horses has a particularly bad session or is being a royal git on the yard, we joke about sending them off to the pedigree chum factory!

In reply to the 'meat scandal' haha..
Some one had annoyed me and I said rrgh Im gonna kill him! Did I go out and murder him? Nooo,
If people have said to their horse, you are going to the meat factory! Did they send there horse to the meat factory? Nooo.

Right Im off now guys, have a lovely day and dont argue too much whilst Im gone  :D

I took no offence and did chuckle at the comments, I replied to the more serious posters. I threatened Ollie on the weekend after my bad eject a seat style fall, I sat on the top of the block reins in one hands a smoke in the other full of sand head to toe telling Ollie all about how easy it would be for him to get served on a platter ;)

Whatever breed anyone owns as long as we are all having fun who cares! There are so many reasons why people choose to own the horses we own, not just about what we visually like. I am having huge jealousy issues with CM's grey but I do not think I shall rush out and buy an Anglo Arab although simply stunning, as I found out on the weekend I don't bouce anymore :D

Hot choccy please for me :-)

Very easily, the same way I can joke about bumping my DH off for the insurance, or making my nephew sleep in the shed if he's naughty. I'm not actually going to do any of that it is all a joke...... some people obviously don't get jokes and that is sad. What is really sad is how heated some of the "defenders" got, they shouldn't take things so personally and should learn to accept that people have different opinions. Do we think they'd have got so offended if we'd critisised their choice of wallpaper????

Lol, mine are threatened either with the glue factory so that OH can use them for a change or the kennels. They haven't a clue what I'm talking about so it doesn't upset them that I'm taking the pee out of them - and that I don't usually keep my word about it either. If I did keep my word, they'd have something to moan about then!
It's part and parcel of owning horses. If you haven't got a sense of humour then I suggest buying something lifeless instead.

That thread made me laugh - but then I've been around the forum long enough to know the characters involved. I don't know if I should say it, but newbie baiting and taking the rise are well known forum pastimes, it's that kind of forum and that's why I like it.

I usually get into trouble when someone posts something seriously and I take it as a joke rather than the other way around. :o

There is no need to slide into personal abuse though. People are entitled to express their opinons, as long as it is objective.

Oh yes, where I live horses are bred for meat or rounded up off the mountains and taken to slaughter. So jokes about the pie factory are pretty tame.

I do think this is all getting quite silly, with 3 threads on the forum about it! To the people that have been offended....take a step back, and accept that the op and others on there were joking, albeit distastful in your eyes.
And to the people that found the post last night in good taste, also take a step back and see that offence could of and has been taken.
Everyone has their own opinions, and no one is right, or wrong.

Quite funny on the whole, but there is no excuse for being objectionable really.

Anyway - if traditional cobs are so fat, lazy, bad to ride and so on...why then can you not buy a nice traditional coloured hairy cob for less than £10K!
