My friend has advertised her very nice 4yr old Irish Cob, the advert is very clear of what he can and cannot do. He is quiet for a 4yr old but all being said he is only 4 years old...

So why oh why do people turn up for a viewing who can't even do rising trot and want him as a first horse... are some people just incredibly thick by thinking that a 4yr old will make the perfect horse when they cannot even do rising trot, or do people just like to 'Tour' around looking at horses for the 'free ride' and pass themselves off as a good rider, until they actually sit on the horse... Grrrr

Know what you mean. The worst one I had was for an event bred yearlingI had for sale. Young girl called, wanted to know if she was good to hack on roads & how high she had jumped. Never told her where we lived & suggested she look for an older pony. Yearing now 4, sold to friend for her daughter to event & is in the perfect home. I have to say when selling the youngsters I ask what the buyer is after & let them talk. If I don't think they are up to scratch don't let them view. You can winkle out many of the freeloaders, when left to talk they come out with a lot of tosh which doesn't add up.:o

Lots of reasons. Some are joyriders, some have an over inflated sense of their own ability. Some people are just plain stupid. And I used to know one ri who regularly took clients to see unsuitable horses as he got paid for each viewing

I met a woman once who had 2 1yr old newforest ponies and she couldnt ride! she thought they could learn together!!!! IDIOT, she then tried to learn to ride from a BOOK! I mentioned the words sitting trot to her one day and her reply was "whats that"!!! shocking!

She then bought a haffy and cut its forelock so "he could see where he was going!" again IDIOT

I advertised last one as a project and very forward, liable to run off under saddle if allowed to. Still had calls asking if he'd suit adult complete beginner and small child to share.

i advertised my boy completely honestly warts and all and said that he was a good show jumping prospect and i wanted him to go to a home where he would be pushed and his talent could grow. first reply.............................'do u think arabi would get bored just being a HACKING horse??'
some people are just a bit dumb!!

I've recently advertised my lad and have had some funny email enquiries.
I've clearly stated that while he's a very good little lad he needs a competent rider as is rather forward going when XC/ competing.

I had one lady lead me on to believe she was a capable rider. Turned out she was a capable rider "ready to move onto jumping 60cm". Now without being funny (and I know jumping high doesn't equal better rider) but a horse described as being 'ideal for a competent teen' is not the horse for a novice jumper.

Also have had several people asking if they could loan for the summer and one girl offer to compete my horse in return for me paying for it's upkeep, hey ho!

Its unreal the stupid questions people ask, my friend clealry states on her advert "Not for loan, this is a 'For Sale' advert" and she had someone email today asking "Can we loan him and move him to Blackpool this coming weekend"... Errr Hello!!!!

She then bought a haffy and cut its forelock so "he could see where he was going!" again IDIOT

And yet, everytime I take one of my horses out, I get asked, by supposedly horsey people "Can he see where he's going under all this?! harharhar" No I like to keep my horse effectively blindfolded when jumping courses of fences  Of course he can bleedin' well see, you moron.
