Why do show jumpers tape their horses' hooves?

Instead of over reach boots I think.

Its to stop the horse ripping its shoes off. You can also get boots by cavalcade that clip under the frog and protect the whole back of the bulb.

in europe we put on those little bootie things as mentioned aboev then tape over them.

cuz traditional bell boots overhang the front of the hoof somewhat, and especially when the horse scrapes over the top pole it will hang down so taping reduces the risk that the boot will cause the poles to roll.
